Dr. Marchena listened to my aches and pains and was very sensitive to my personal issues. I feel like I can tell him anything and he will understand and try to make me feel better.

My mother has been very happy with her visits. Doctor is very thorough and has really helped her with medication to relieve the pain of her arthritis. Loves the doctor's personality and the care she receives from him. Staff is very friendly.

Dr Marchena is a great physician for anyone with arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. He is caring, really listens, actually funny which really helps when you are hurting, adaptable & helpful if you need to change times or have unexpected questions. Requires bloodwork prior to periodic scheduled visits and has already reviewed & analyzed the test results to be able to question changes or recommend adjustments. His staff, like he, are always prompt, helpful and caring. He is one of my very favorite physicians. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Marchena is a wonderful, compassionate man. He explains everything so I could understand.

Doctor seems fine. However administratively they are failing. The Williamsburg office can’t see schedule or make appointments for Newport News Office. What? They are the same doctors and they have two office locations. It’s supposed to be a convenience! I needed to be seen and treated before I have an upcoming surgery in August. However they couldn’t book me an appointment because they were so busy after the doctor returns from his vacation. I asked if I could switch physicians since I had only just met the doctor and he hadn’t given me any treatment only wanted lab work and X-rays.((Which labs were just done a month earlier by my PCP.)) I was told, no and that I was already established with that doctor. Then I was told they would put me on a cancellation list and they thought it was very possible they could see me before my surgery. What? Your going to randomly call me when you have cancelations to see if I can rush to an appointment. Not mentioning that I live in Gloucester in addition to having other responsibilities. I’m so frustrated about dealing with the entire medical field. These doctors offices have no value for the patients time. It’s like they think you have nothing else to do, I guess our new title needs to be “Professional Patient” because it is a full time job. Also if you have an appointment that requires labs you have to go to labs and off site if it’s after 4:00. So essentially you can’t have both done unless you have an A.M. appointment. Another day of sitting around and going to another facility. Who has time for all of this? I’m not just hanging around waiting to go to the doctor. It takes planning and scheduling of my life around all these appointments, follow ups, labs etc. I certainly thought TPMG would have their act together better than this. Very disappointed in my first visit. It’s back to the drawing board for me. I’ll be seeking medical care for my arthritis in Richmond. If it’s going to be an all day appointment at least I’ll go where I know undoubtedly I’ll receive excellent medical care and I’m valued as a patient. Screen the doctors office closely when choosing to become a new patient. Obviously they don’t disclose all the administrative policies and procedures. It’s a lot of time wasted when you’ve gone through all the steps to become a new patient...make sure you know what your getting into.
