Ocean Beach Hospital: Emergency Room

Should have been able to give stars for different aspects of my wife’s visit to the er on a Monday afternoon. Initially my wife was brought in by ambulance due to high blood pressure chest pain and severe headache. Personnel working at the time were compassionate and professional. After two attempts and fails by attending nurses to get an IV for fluids with only one arm to work with because of lymphadema in the other, they send in the phlebotomist! I should at this point explain that over the last 18 years my wife has been “needled” over and over again in the same arm. Anyway the phlebotomist comes in all confident and assures us it won’t be a problem for her. It doesn’t take long to realize she is not going to be able to get the job done. The IV finally gets done after the shift change by the attending nurse on the first attempt. After several tests and exams it was determined that she would stay over night. The room appeared to be under construction and at the time she wanted to take a shower there was no water! So, as you can see this place is so similar to any other place in that it has its good and bad. And a lot of what we get is due to what we give. So when you need some one’s help do your best to help them help you.

My family and I were on vacation in Long Beach, we ended up calling the Ambulance for my brother. The EMT's that came were professional, listened and treated my brother with great care and concern. The emergency room was awesome at listening, quick at getting things under control and communicated with me via phone with what was happening. It was one of the best experiences my brother has had at an emergency room. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So thankful for the staff here. Brought my kiddo in to the ER and they took such great care of us.

Came in for severe tooth pain due to an abscess. The lady at the administration office was super sweet and patient with me. The wait for the nurse to call me back was pretty quick. Nurse was very kind and professional. Doctor came in shortly after being in our room and did a very quick examination on me before prescribing me some pain killers and antibiotics to help me out until I was able to be seen by my dentist. He was very nice and empathetic. Even though I was in a good amount of pain and dreading a visit to the ER late at night, everyone working there made the night fairly enjoyable and helped distract from the pain I was in. I received MUCH better care here than any other ER I have had to visit. I would definitely recommend this place.

I visited this place because I tore my cornea in my eye and I was in so much pain and the eye doctors were closed. I waited for a long long time before I actually was seen by the doctor note that I was in agonizing pain. I was trying my best not to scream but it was very hard. The nurse had no patience for me and he was being extremely passive agressive. I was trying to be patient but I did ask how long it would be before the doctor would come because it had been about an hour. And he said you just have to wait, he will be in soon and rolled his eyes like he was annoyed that I asked a question. I kept crying because they said they couldn’t give me any kind of medication until the doctor saw me. Then at one point the male nurse told me that I needed to be “quite because you’re going to scare people” and that made me want to give that guy a corneal abrasion so he could then empathize. The doctor spent a long time trying to pry my eye open to see what had happened and he just prescribed me eye drops. No pain killers or anything. I ended up going back because the pain got so bad. Finally they used numbing drops. WOW WHAT DO YOU KNOW. And then gave me pain killers WOW. In total I was there for a bout 5 hours: 3 the first time and 2 the second. I got horrible care and the male nurse was absolutely disgusting and not helpful at all. I wanted to hurt him, and I’m not a violent person. I will try to stay away from this place but considering it’s the only hospital within 30 minutes of us I will most likely have to come back at some point.nI have permanent eye damage from this injury and because of the horrible care I received from this staff.
