La Paloma has friendly, and most important, qualified, proficient and HELPFUL staff. They are prompt in helping my father with anything he needs and they are providing great care. They allow visits through the glass door (due to the pandemic precautions), where he can use a phone to talk to me while I use my cell phone. My father has even said how good La Paloma is, especially compared to the nursing home he was in, in March.

My 91 year old grandmother was cared for here for here for about 3 weeks, and the care was wonderful. We were uncertain of sending her here, but are SO glad we did! They worked on her physical therapy daily, and were very accommodating. The facility was always clean and tidy. Everyone was very helpful and friendly! A lot of the employees came into her room to wish her well when she was released, and were very informative!

My 90 year old father was cared for here after a fall. He was given physical therapy and occupation therapy, as well as routine medical care. I couldn't say more positive things about everyone we dealt with there, from the physician assistant, the social worker , the nursing staff to the maintenance staff. They were all responsive, caring, well-trained and took a personal interest in our father's well-being.nThis was just an overall positive experience for our father and family and so different from what we had experienced with our mother at another facility in North San Diego County, which was efficient, but not as dedicated in their care of their patients.nNever a great thing when you have to be in one of these facilities, but La Paloma certainly made our father's stay a beneficial one.

If you have a choice, look elsewhere before sending a loved one to la paloma. DO NOT BELIEVE THE PHOTOS POSTED. I was duped by Google reviews which is why I am writing this to prevent others from having the terrible experience my mom had (I think employees are writing reviews to improve the ratings). This place is overcrowded, looks like decor hasn't been updated since the 70s and is dirty. When my mom was dropped off, the curtains next to her had a huge stain that looked like blood. She was put into an overcrowded room with 2 other people (3 people to a room). No one talked to us or let her know what was going on. Her roommate and CNA were the only sources of information. My mom begged me not to leave her alone on the first night. Things did get better in the sense that she got good overall care from PT'S and OT's, and ultimately her care allowed her to go home. Her cna's were very helpful and nice, but definitely overly busy. Some of her CNA's were truly going above and beyond. Her wound care was supposed to happen every day, and they did not follow through on this plan. However, the wound care nurse Aldrin was amazing and on top of everything. He gave my mom a lot of information and checked on her every day when he was there. My mom cried When she said goodbye to him. When he was not there her wounds were not dressed each day as her plan stated. I had to talk with management about this and about the stain on her curtain and they did fix it immediately. The furniture is old, busted and broken. Everyone working seemed overworked. Food is not healthy and reminded me of badbad element school cafeteria food. Chicken fingers and tater tots were served on her first day. Overall if you have no choice but to go here, it is important to speak up and advocate for yourself or your loved one to get everything you need. They responded promptly when I raised concerns but it made me worried about all the people who don't have someone to speak up for them. If I could do it again I would have looked elsewhere before committing to this location. Once you're admitted moving to a new location is very difficult as medications are a mess and take forever to arrive at la Paloma. My mom had a very rough experience, she is definitely traumatized, and I am thankful she is out after only 2 weeks.
