The Maker Hotel

Everything great you’ve heard about The Maker is true. The service is fantastic and the dining options are varied and delicious. In terms of design, every detail seems to have been considered and the heated bathroom floor in the Corner Studio was a great touch. Being Thanksgiving it was a bit quiet in Hudson and we were more than happy to spend our time on the property. We’ll be back for sure.

My husband booked a few nights at The Maker as a surprise gift for me. A day after he booked online, I was contacted by The Maker that the room he had selected—and received a confirmation email for—was actually not available. When I called to sort this out, The Maker did absolutely nothing to make this right. Just a weak, vague explanation about how the website showed rooms that were not really available on their booking system, but yet *somehow* my husband was able to book through the online booking system. Seems really truly fishy to me. All that was offered to me was to select different dates. We had already rearranged schedules and childcare to make this happen, so I could not reschedule on the spot. All I got was a “yeah, it’s weird that this happened, sorry!” For the price point especially, I was expecting far more hospitality. The man I spoke with could not have been less bothered. We spend a lot of time in Hudson, and are truly disappointed at this introduction to The Maker.

The Maker is a beautifully renovated property, perfect for a long weekend getaway in the winter. We used the fireplace in our room (The Architect suite) all three nights of our visit. The shower pressure was excellent, the blackout shades really blacked out the morning light, and the room temperature was easy to control. The rooms have robes and coffee is delivered in the morning in a thermos. For a drink be sure to visit the lounge (formerly the stable). The Restaurant was beautiful for dinner — equally stunning for weekend lunch/brunch.

Absolutely stunning hotel. We stayed in the Gardener and let me tell you! Having a fireplace in your room is a game changer. The beds are like clouds, the shower and bath makes you feel like a queen. The staff is truly so accommodating - I feel like we got a bespoke experience and that they found a way for us to do whatever we requested. It was extremely special. Located right on the main street too so all the shops are a few steps away. Super romantic for a couple and a great way to celebrate a birthday.

The Maker was a perfect long weekend respite. To describe it in a word: thoughtful. Beautifully restored furnishings, textural fabrics and wall coverings, vintage eclectic lighting. The bedding...like sleeping in a cloud. The guest-only areas provide privacy and in the time of COVID an extra measure of safety and comfort. The staff is warm, professional and shows pride in being part of the experience that is The Maker.
