I was there for five days back in October after a suicide attempt. I was transferred from Ft. Sanders via a paddy wagon that I was in for 3 hours. I’m extremely claustrophobic and that was probably the most terrifying time in my life. That is NOT a proper way to transfer folks going through mental crisis. If anything, it made many of my issues worse. The most love and help I got from this facility was from the other patients. I saw a therapist once for maybe 15 minutes and the rest was just roaming the hallways and speaking to the other patients. I understand that a mental hospital isn’t supposed to be pleasant place to be but I feel like this place made me feel worse overall. Go to any other local mental health facility if you have the option.

Took what I’m prescribed. Ended up in an ambulance, blacked out after an iv of who knows what. Woke up in hospital with heart rate over 200 and bruise on my thigh. Then I’m told I have to go here for a week. Terrible system.

No one ever answers phone - no communications at all until they release people on a lot of meds - therapist are not trained well and do not communicate at all with outside help or family - they do not try to help the person they just try to drug them up to send them on their way in my opinion ud83dude2dud83dude2d

Highly recommend another place for children. Do not believe the therapists have much experience because it felt like they were doing the minimum with no care at all if my son was actually making progress. Going through the motions is not what you want from medical professionals & that is what they do. Even worse, the administrators are absolutely terrible. Day of discharge would constantly change depending on who I spoke with & they couldn't get my phone number correct for my son to call me after 4 days & multiple calls advising them of correct number. As a parent, having your child go through mental illness struggles is heartbreaking & Peninsula made it so much worse because they couldn't even get the simple things done correctly. If you have options & love your kid(s), find help elsewhere.

A waste of time! My daughter was transported to Peninsula after a few days stay at Ft. Sanders Hospital.nShe went via Mobile Crisis after attempting suicide. Five days at Peninsula and they did nothing for her! Doctors gave her Prozac when she has suffered from paranoid psychosis for 2 years! Prozac! No drugs for psychosis, no counseling, no nothing. The first two days she stood in the hall with nothing to do.nWe had such hope when she was admitted, but she still has the same illness.nDoes the facility even real doctors?nI’m sick as is the rest of her family. I’m angry, heartsick, disgusted. Close the useless “hospital”.
