N. Henry (12/17/2020)
Patient had a small tumor removed successfully. She was rushed* out of the hospital a day-and-a-half later without any post-care, follow-up considerations (save for her check-in three months out.) The family could not get in touch with anyone to provide advice or insight on her post-care, additional needs (in addition to the post-care paperwork and medication.)nnWhen she had recovered enough physically, she went to her PCP to receive care and report on her condition. She then to a neurologist on his referral who has now concluded that the surgery has left her with brain damage.nnThe four stars is because we acknowledge that Shands did it's assigned part (removing the tumor), but we are wholly unsatisfied with her aftercare, communication, and missing follow-ups**.nn*Rushed, in this sense is that her nurse called a day after surgery, leaving a message noting that the patient was ready to go home. Later, when called back, the nurse insisted that the patient herself was ready to leave. (This was completely untrue - the patient desired no such thing.) The patient was originally told that she would stay in the hospital for at least three days after her brain surgery.nn**The patient (before surgery) and the family (after their immediate visit after surgery) was told that she was to have her staples removed and regularly see a speech therapist, though none of this was expanded upon.nnRecommendation: Do not leave until you have thoroughly spoken with the doctors and nurses, and your patient's aftercare prepared.

Amazing hospital and staff. From the valet staff, registration, COVID checking, All are very professional and helpful. Nurses, Technicians, Front Desk staff, Doctors, I just cant say enough! Even calling the hospital the operators where helpful. Glad this is the place for my family!

This is one of the worst and growing problems with this facility. Waited 50 minutes on a schedule to see my stepsons neurologist.nVery frustrating to see this poor administration continuing its overlapping appointments. Without any apology or reason.

The staff in the Neuro ICU could not have been more caring and knowledgeable. As a medical professional in another state, I can say my mom received the best possible care.

The best of the best. Dr. Fox, neurosurgeon, has been extremely informative explaining in detail all aspects of my husband’s upcoming back surgery. The procedure is critical requiring many hours in the OR. We feel blessed & greatly appreciative.
