I would like to first say that April is a wonderful person who treated me with care and did her best considering the circumstances. Otherwise, the receptionists were horrible and clearly do not care about the wellbeing of the patients. The nurse I had wasn't much better.nnWhen I first called around 8:20am I told the receptionist that I was experiencing covid symptoms and wanted to come in to get tested. I was told that I would be able to wait in the lobby, but that in the meantime I would have to call when I got there and wait outside for the check in/registration. That's not a problem at all.nnWhen I arrived at med express at 8:44, I called once again to get my registration done and stayed outside. The receptionist this time, seemly someone different, was polite but said that because I was experiencing symptoms I would have to wait outside. I was told that the current wait time was an hour and a half. Not a problem, I dont mind waiting.nnI would like to point out in all of this that I dont have a vehicle, so i am waiting outside in the freezing cold this entire time.nnAfter two hours of waiting outside after my arrival I call once again to check and see how much longer itll be. When I explain to the receptionist that I've been waiting for 2 hours, without a vehicle, in the cold, I am laughed at and told that it shouldnt be too much longer.nnFinally around 11pm I am called to get my history filled out for the nurse. Sometime shortly after that I am seen by a nurse who administered my covid test. Other than rushing very quickly, she was fine, and I can understand the rush due to us being in a pandemic. That's at least forgivable.nnFinally, I see April, who administers a second covid test to be sent off. She was knowledgeable, kind, and caring. I hope that there are more doctors there like her, otherwise med express would not be salvageable at that point.nnIt is safe to say I will never step foot in a med express again.

They told me on the phone that they could give me a covid rapid test. I needed this test in order to complete my Certified Nursing Assistant class but I had had no luck getting tested in Richmond. So I drove two hours out to get the test. When I arrived they told me there was no way I could possibly get a rapid test. So now I can't complete the class which cost $1200 and I drove four hours for no reason.

First off: shout out to April, my technician who administered my COVID test. She treated me like she didn't have 50 patients lined up behind me. I applaud her, and others like her, for holding it together and keeping composure under the circumstances of the pandemic. MedExpress should pay her, and other employees like her, more money instead of distributing profits to shareholders. MedExpress stock prices (owned by Optum) are looming at an all-time high, just like the shadow of Norman Bates stalking Marion Crane in the shower. I wish they would use that knife to carve up their turkey to feed the table but something tells me it's the classic story I know: a huge company, Optum, preying on employees due to economic compulsion.nnSpeaking of avarice, my issue relates to the fact that MedExpress charged me a $35 copay without explanation even though I asked for one at the time of payment. I have gold-plated insurance but I still had to pay to get my COVID test even though it is widely known to anybody who reads the news that COVID testing is couched in federal funding. Moreover, MedExpress did not automatically refund my copay after my insurance paid for my test in full. I had to call MedExpress to initiate reimbursement.nnDue to the stresses imposed by the pandemic, and the more pressing issues it prioritizes for individuals, I would not be surprised if a large number of people ignored their Explanation of Benefits from their insurance or the news and subsequently failed to pursue reimbursement of any charges claimed by MedExpress. The company must strategically bank on this, so I'm going to call this a scam. MedExpress is a scam. MedExpress should not charge a copay for COVID tests and I heartily encourage you to seek reimbursement and write to your congressional representative about the mere act of them charging you a copay for COVID testing. Your congressional rep should be involved because MedExpress is concurrently making claims to your insurance to pay for your COVID test while charging you a copay AND claiming federal funds provided by your tax dollars to pay for COVID tests.nnIt is so disappointing to me that a company that could rise to the occasion to provide a service during a national crisis instead chooses to prey on vulnerable people. Shame on you, MedExpress!
