We live locally (South Haven) and have been to most of the restaurants in the Saugatuck and Douglas area. Fine dining should be judged on service, quality and presentation of dishes and availability of premium wine and spirits. J. Paul’s gets five stars on all accounts. Not inexpensive but compared to other locations it is comparable or better. A definite return for us.

Just finished dinner, and I have to say this meal was Excellant!!!! Bret & Johnny were the best. Food was Excellant. You will not have a bad meal here. Deck seating as always is great. Nice big umbrella to keep the sun off. If you want great service take my word and go to this place. Its in the Kirby Hotel in Douglas Michigan. Tell them Ed & Donna sent you. We have been coming to this little Gem for a couple years now.The Chef even comes out to ask how your meal is. These people care about what the guest think and are very personable & talkative. So We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. Its pricey but well worth it. We let them know we will be back in Aug. and already made our Reservations for the outside patio. Thanks again guys. If anyone has any questions let me know.

This was a gem in tourist Michigan. The food was amazing and well plated. The drink menu was the most varied we have seen in our Saguatuck/Douglas, MI vacation so far. The pork chop was just as good as the owner-s picture. The charcuterie board was shaped like Michigan which is charming.nnThe outside of the house looks country, but the inside is very modern 80's. The music had great remixes of 70's and 80's plus modern songs. The inside chairs were very comfortable which is important if you are staying more than 1 hour. The bar area was adorable. This is a must do if you a are in the area. Open Table reservations were a plus.

Fantastic food tonight. Shrimp and grits (more NOLA than low country) and the filet were outstanding. Bret and Travis (host and chef) appear to be a seamless (up grade?) transition. Kudos!
