This facility is a must visit! The staff really takes care of their animals, while being very particular at ensuring placement of animals into homes that will be the best possible fit. I do not make this comment lightly as our recent application was denied by them. Although my husband and I were shocked, never thinking in a million years people like us would be denied. We understood why the management made the decision they did. Although we don’t agree, the position they are in daily, to try and protect the animals after leaving their facility, should be appreciated. It would be difficult to make those though decisions. We wish their facility, staff and animals the best.

I'm 38 years old....Ever since I was 10 years I have been around at least 7 cats since I was 10..I pretty much know how to take care of a cat..Going to a shelter and not bothering to process my application for a cat all because I didn't have a vet refference..how am I or anyone suppose to get a vet refference for an animal in ur facility if u keep denying people?? and I filled out an application a week.before I called..if I wouldn't have called..I wouldn't have heard from u guys at all...

I volunteer at Livingston County Humane Society and love the way that the pets are cared for. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure that the pets in their care get what they need. I also love that they are so invested in finding the best home for the pets. It is not an easy task to chose the best home when multiple applications come in for one pet but they do great with the pet's best interest at heart.

My Husband and I tried adopting a dog named Reny from this shelter. We are well qualified and met all of the requirements they have to be able to adopt a dog from them. However, they still denied our application due to our current pet had one shot that was out of date by a couple of weeks and our vet did not have heart worm prevention records. Heather told us if we took our dog to the vet and sent them the updated records with proof of the new shot and negative heart worm they would continue to process the application. My husband went to the vet first thing this morning and sent the required paperwork back over to the shelter. They then emailed us saying “We will need a receipt showing heart worm was purchased consistently. When you provide that we can continue to process the application.” We purchase our heart worm prevention over the counter due to convenience and affordability. We don’t even think to keep the receipts because why would we? A negative heart worm test should be satisfactory enough! Heather was super degrading to us and she would rather keep innocent pets in the shelter rather than see them live out their life in a loving home. We will take our business away from this shelter and go to a more respectful one that truly cares about their pets and adopters. I sincerely hope this rescue takes responsibility for their actions and their employees lack of professionalism.nnEdited to add in response to the businesses reply: I have saved emails to prove we never told you our current dog has been out of date on shots since July. Our emails also state we never once told you our dog was not on heartworm prevention consistently. Accept and own up to the fact that you’re a horrible shelter doing a disservice to your animals. We spoke with multiple people and we were not the only ones who have experienced a similar situation as the one we have, get over yourselves!

Don't waste your time here. I applied to adopt a kitten but didn't have a vet reference because I hadn't owned any animals previously, so they asked for a family member or friends vet as a reference. I gave them a family members vet info for the reference and was denied because that person didnt get her dogs fixed. Her animals are otherwise healthy and up to date on all shots and medications, just not fixed. I don't understand why that would be relevant to me adopting a kitten considering the family member does not live in the same house as I do nor would their animals be in contact with any animals in my home. I understand wanting any animals in the home the cat is living in to be fixed but denying an application based on someone else's vet reference is absurd. I applied for a different kitten at another shelter and was accepted immediately WITHOUT needing someone else's vet as a reference and now have two happy healthy kittens, while the kitten I initially wanted to adopt is still sitting in Livingston County Humane Society 2 months later. They'd rather let their animals sit in the shelter than adopt them out to responsible loving homes based on arbitrary reasons.
