Anchor Bar

These wings are now officially the best you can buy in San Antonio. These are larger than the pigeon-wings you get from another local traditional favorite and here they automatically cook them well done, to perfection. My initial review was overly critical of this location not being as true to the original in terms of atmosphere for those familiar with the Original in Buffalo NY, birthplace of the Buffalo Wing. I am still deducting 1 star for this because it is officially #2 and I truly wish more effort went into replicating the Original because that place reserves a HUGE place in my heart. Regardless this place holds is own and aside from being the #2 Anchor Bar this place gets a solid 5 stars for food quality.

The food, drinks, and service were all exceptional here. Our group arrived later in the evening and was quickly taken care of, with drinks ordered and refilled as many times as the guys could drink before the bar closed. The appetizers and main dishes did not disappoint. As it was later in the evening our group had the entire outside patio to ourselves. With the dimmed lighting, sports channel and music in the background we could not have selected a better place to enjoy a our evening. Definitely recommend this bar.

We were delightfully surprised by Anchor Bar. There were some bumps along the way, but they voluntarily stepped up and made it right, even though we were wiling to just let it slide, which guarantees we will be coming back. The outside playground is open! They don't have servers for that area, but you can order to go and they'll deliver it out to you. We were really happy with the quality of the to go food, everything was hot and crisp, nothing was soggy, the fries and wings were hot and crispy. Tuesday is kids eat free, we ordered to go to eat outside, and they initially told us that the kids eat free doesn't apply to that, but once the manager realized that we were still eating on the premises, he refunded us the cost of the kids entrée, we didn't complain, he was offered to do it since we were still there, which makes sense with an open playground. There is shade that you can sit under while you let the kids play. Their Anchor sauce is very flavorful! We ordered the fried Mac and cheese, and wow! It was delicious and that sauce is punchy! The kids chicken is whats used for the boneless wings, and the breading is wonderfully thin and crisp, and I'll be ordering the boneless wings next time to try it, it seems perfect to get the sauce to stick without being thicker than the chicken. The lemon pepper wings were tasty. The restrooms were also very clean! We were very happy with our experience and will definitely be back!

$5.50 mugs of Shiner and Dos XX during when Texas Pro teams are playing. The wings....are the best. My favorite...always crispy and perfectly sauced. Great atmosphere. I can for the wings, but stayed for the pizza. The pizza is loaded with toppings and the crust is phenomenal.

This place is unique. Indoor outdoor with a sports bar atmosphere. Tvs are everywhere. It's loud inside, not so much out side . Then they have a playpen 50 ft from the entrance for eating take out . It's a huge playpen with chairs and tables to watch the kids play. The food is good and the drinks are fast. The bar puts them on your table quick. It's a little bit more expensive then similar places but not overpriced. The food is great quality and they care about taste. I had one complaint, small one. That they no longer have the chicken wing that comes with the bloody Mary. Now it's chicken on a stick.u
