Como Steak House

Since opening in 1989 this is a spot that is quite famous for its unique downtown and fantastic steaks grilled over an open charcoal pit. Historic downtown Como features several restaurants including the Thai Hut, Windy City Grille, El Rio Mexican cuisine, and the oyster bar located on the second floor of the Como Steak House. Spend the night and stay a couple of days. The owners maintain a positive relationship and you are immediately on a first name basis to all. The Como Inn and Como Courtyard offer comfort coziness right on Main Street and 307 Main hosts weddings and large parties in the banquet hall. Come to Como. Warning: You may never want to leave. D

Though this place really does have fantastic steak to be fair, heck it's why I drive the distance to go there, I do also have to share this one sadly critical review.nnI was up near Memphis, so it was about an hour drive to get to Como. I called the steak house to verify they were open and seating, as in the age of Covid things are not always the same. I explained that I had to drive almost an hour, and didn't want to waste the gas if I wasn't going to be able to get a seat.nnThey responded they were open till 10pm, and service was walk-in with final seating around 9pm.. With this knowledge I left for Como.nnI arrive a little before 8pm, walk in and people were eating, great. I ask to be seated, and they tell me they are not seating anyone as they decided to close early as they were slow. I explained to the hostess that I had just called in the past hour to verify seating, and was informed they were seating til 9pm. The response was sorry, but we are closed. I then asked for a manager.nnThe manager came out, and I explained the fact I called and drove an hour to come to Como, because I was told they would be open when I called to check. The manager looked at me and said, I understand that, but we changed our minds and decided to close, shrugged her shoulders and walked off.nnDuring this time several other groups came in looking to eat as well. So if they were slow, it's only because they would not seat patrons.nnAs I stated their food is good, but the management, and their attitude towards patrons needs serious work. You don't tell someone on the phone to drive an hour to eat (2hrs total driving), and turn them away with an attitude when they arrive. They should be ashamed of how they treated us, and as much as I love the steaks I doubt I will go back..

This place knows what they doing with food! From the steak to the grilled chicken it's always amazing. I love coming here but be prepared for the wait. I do not recommend letting the wait for a seat deter you from trying this amazing food. If you like pickles, do yourself a favor and get the fried pickles appetizer. Thank me later.

Great place! Great ribeye! My compliments to the gentlemen on the grill. We had the appetizer, then the salad, then the steak way faster than I expected. Our server, Jessica was fast and efficient. She was not an obtrusive server. She quickly checked on is as she was heading to or from a nearby table. She was there when we needed something and not there when we didn't. She was GREAT! Though it was a bit pricier than I had expected before seeing the menu, my wife and I will definitely return after the GREAT food and service. Great job ladies and gents! You should be counted as credits to the COMO STEAK HOUSE!
