Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a partner of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport

My mother was in here for rehabilitation after having covid-19. She was on a ventilator for 7 days and was on 3 liters of oxygen when she transferred to this facility. They had her off of the oxygen in about 10 days and in pt and ot daily. Mom went in there on a stretcher, mostly unable to talk clearly, not swallowing and left in a wheelchair - but was able to transfer herself to the car to go home - able to swallow whole bites and talk. We are thrilled! The nurses were attentive, the place was AMAZINGLY clean and any question that we had during her stay was answered almost immediately. If they didn't know an answer, they found out within a few hours. Only complaint with the whole thing was the food, but it was more with the pureed and chopped meals rather than when she was able to eat whole bites. I have to add that this place is amazing - but the patients have to be willing to also put in the work - if they don't work, they won't get the full benefit out of this wonderful environment. The nurses was great, the place was clean, PTs was really good but the management was not good for anything, case workers should’ve had me a wheelchair when I left through my insurance company, they played it off like my insurance would not pay for it, so I called my insurance company and they said they just got the order the day I was discharged, finally I had them to admit that I have been there for nearly two weeks and didn’t even check on it because they said one of the staff went on vacation and the other just came off vacation. So I guess if both personnel isn’t there they can’t do anything, that’s sad and I was told by some nurses I wasn’t the only one Done like that. It’s hard when you only have one leg to get around some places while your waiting on your Prothesis for a week, you do a lot of crawling and hopping which wears you out especially when you have 30% function of your heart. My mother had a stroke on January 4th and was airlifted to Tulane University Medical Centershe was there till the 10th of January when she was transported back to encompass rehabilitation Center in Memorial Hospital. Closer to home. They have an amazing staff here they are so friendly and so helpful and they have helped her recover from a point where she wasn't able to walk at all or do anything with her left side now she is walking with a cane and able to push and pull her left arm and left it up.

Fantastic place clean attentive...iwpuld send a love one there and if ever I needed it I’d return therenAwesome staff. Wonderful care great program. Really caring people. It is intense but good place

Please be aware that since Encompass Health has taken over Healthsouth rehab this is nothing more than a skilled nursing unit. My father was only involved in group rehab sessions while sitting in a wheelchair. With minimal occupational therapy. They did not get him up in the morning to shower, brush his teeth, comb his hair, dress himself. There is no laundry service (the family has to take the soiled laundry home to wash). This is not an independent living rehabilitation center. Do not expect your family member/patient to be able to exit this facility and live independently!! This has not really helped my father and this facility has gone downhill since encompass health taking over!!! VERY SAD!!
