Avis Car & Truck Rental South Brisbane

My insurer hired a car from this outlet while my car was being repaired. The repair took one day longer than was necessary. On the morning the the hire car was due back, I received a call from Avis asking where the car is. It seems that the repairer did not alert Avis that I would need the car an extra day. I was asked by Avis (remember, I'm the customer here) to call the repairer and sort it out and get back to Avis. I told Avis that I would have their car back that afternoon. At no point was I told that as of that day, the outlet would be closing an hour earlier than normal, from 5pm, to 4pm. For those that do not know, where the Avis cars are left and where the outlet is are not co-located, they are some distance apart, about a 10 minute walk depending on traffic lights. So that afternoon, I returned the car at 4:10pm only to find the outlet closed. No drop box to leave the keys. I then spent 20 minutes on the telephone to a very (un)helpful person who blamed me for returning the car late. Unhelpfully, I was also told to return the car the Airport Avis outlet, as they have a dropbox. When I suggested a more practical solution, being to drop the keys to the Brisbane City outlet, I was told that I would be charged a fee for that. I ended up catching a cab home, and have had to drive back to Avis this morning to return the keys, a 1hr round trip. To say this whole experience is disappointing does not adequately convey how I feel about my dealing with Avis. Avis are not customer focused, nor solution orientated.
