Thrifty Car & Truck Rental Rockhampton Airport

CAUTION WHEN BOOKING THRIFTY USING ECONOMYBOOKINGS.COMnnIf you like to fly and hire cars for trips away, you should read this before booking with Thrifty using economybookings.com or any other online booking engine where a code is issued by email.nnI am not telling you not to book with Thrifty, but if you do using a third party to get good hire rates, you could find yourself being charged full rates upon arrival or being turned away.nnWe made a booking via economybookings.com and got a good rate on an SUV pick up from Rockhampton airport. Our credit card was charged the booking fee from economybookings.com and the girl at the Thrifty hire desk had our booking details when we arrived. What we didn't have was the confirmation email from economybookings.com that contained a booking code.nnNo code, no hire - or alternatively pay full rental rates. The difference in cost was massive!nnDespite being able to show the Thrifty service person the charge to our credit card and despite the fact she had the booking details herself, we were turned away.nnCan you imagine that occurring at your destination of travel? The rental fee you had budgeted upon and pre-booked paying the required reservation fee, not honoured because you could not provide a reference code at pick-up (even when the service person had evidence of the third party booking in front of her).nnWe returned to our accommodation and I attempted to call and email economybookings.com. It was impossible to get someone on the phone. The contact facility via the website required the booking reference number which we did not have as no email arrived. Despite trying every way we could think of, we could not make contact with them.nnWe then rang Thrifty and asked for assistance and explained the situation. The service lady on the phone confirmed the booking and told us she would update the reservation and email it back to us and to Thrifty at the airport. She told us to go back and collect the vehicle.nnProblem solved...nope.nnThe service person at Thrifty airport again turned us away as we still did not have the booking code from economybookings. She would not honour the discounted price without it. Our two options were to pay a massively increased price for a new hire or leave. We were so dismayed at that type of service we chose to just leave.nnThe following day I rang Thrifty to speak with customer support. I asked how this could have happened, and questioned whether the service person could have in those circumstances have honoured our booking and perhaps just made notes in the reservation to explain the absence of a code - or create a new reservation honouring the original booking price (which she had evidence of, except for the code). We were told the booking code was mandatory.nnOn a side note, we were offered a free one day hire voucher as a show of good will. Guess what....no voucher ever arrived.nnI sent Thrifty an email expressing in writing our disappointment and to this date have not received any response.nnSo what should you take of all this?nnCertainly use third party booking engines - they get you great prices no doubt at all. But be cautious with economybookings.com because if you don't have the reservation number or get a confirmation email with the code from them you will experience all sorts of troubles trying to contact them (good luck is all I can say).nnAnd if you have booked with Thrifty, my experience is they will NOT HONOUR THAT PRICE without the code and you will also have blown the reservation fee as well.nnIf (like me), you are sometimes in a rush when traveling and leave things behind, or concerned about making mistakes when doing online reservations, remember what Thrifty did to us.nnI will avoid the risk myself and will book with other car hire companies in the future. I hope your experience with Thrifty is better than mine.

Very friendly staff who were good to deal with. I had no issues when I hired a removal truck and the price is good too. I highly recommend and I will be using them again.
