Grand Lake Park-NB

This is my second year coming to the campground, and my family and I love it. The staff are friendly and very helpful. It is a beautiful spot to come and visit for the weekend, or even park seasonally ( if you are looking for a permanent spot.) Prices for sites are fair and reasonable, and everyone is friendly. It is very clean, and lots of space for children to play and have a good time. Public washrooms are clean, and have a shower in them, for people who are tenting to wash up. In all, I give it a 5 star rating because of the sheer beauty and the wonderful memories you can make while visiting.

The good: the park is easily accessible. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. If you can get a site with a view of the lake it makes for a great location. The bad: this is an older campground. Water is not potable, even on full service sites. Staff indicated this was due to an issue from a long time ago that was resolved, but the gov't requires the site to dig up all the plumbing to validate, which would be expensive. Lots of people were using the water, but I wasn't going to risk putting bad water in my fresh water system. I was aware of this going in, so I filled my fresh water tank before arriving. Maintaining proper voltage was a serious problem for us. It was a hot day and we needed to run the AC for our dogs. The campground pedestal could not maintain voltage. When we contacted the manager, she wanted to blame our rig, but when I insisted everything works fine when I run my AC off the generator, she sent maintenance staff to check. Our class B motor home is 3 months old and has a built in Electrical Management System (EMS). My EMS system was reading 114-116v without the AC running. As soon as I ran the AC, the voltage dropped to 103-105v. The maintenance staff did try to help. Checked nearby sites, all were reading 114-166v, checked breakers, etc. It did not fix the problem and they didn't know why. So we disconnected because we did not want to damage our AC or any other appliance. Ran the AC from generator for 4 hours and it worked perfectly. One of the staff did come to follow up to see if our issue was resolved. He indicated he would speak to the manager about giving us a discount, which was appreciated. Several seasonal campers nearby indicated they sometimes have issues when lots of people are running AC or if they are using multiple appliances simultaneously, so this is not an isolated incident. When we checked out and inquired about a discount the manger indicated the problem was with our unit. It wasn't worth the fight for us, but $50 per night is not cheap for this area. Particularly when the water is not potable as well. So, if you like to boondock and want a nice view of the lake, then this may be a good spot. I do not recommend this campground for full service; particularly if you have a newer RV. EMS systems are designed to protect your system from damage and failure. It did what it was supposed to do. Rigs without an EMS may still work, but likely people will damage their motors and pumps overtime and may not know why. The manager is not focused on customer service, which may be a trend from other reviews. I appreciate issues can happen, but how you treat people goes a long way in whether or not they are willing to recommend your business.

As far i am concerned, blake and elaine are very good to deal with. They try their best to make the campground a positive experience for all. But you can't satisfy everyone!
