Consulate General of Romania

What a horrible experience. I called in and waited on hold for 30 minutes and when I reached someone I tried to explain that I was looking to obtain documents from Romania but the guy felt irritated that I was mixing in some English words (sorry, my parents moved when I was 5, I’m doing my best to speak Romanian) and he just hung up on me. Tried a few days later, again waited on hold for 30 min and finally some picks up, I say hello, he hangs up. God forbid you have a real emergency and you need these people.

You know it's questionable when suddenly a bunch of 5 star reviews complimenting such an unprofessional consulate started to show up, literally a month before the new consul came. It is as bad as you can imagine - "Oh wow I am time traveling back into the most glorious 80s communist bureaucracy!". Seriously, how do you operate as a consulate in a foreign country, if you just shut down the office and disable both the landline and the emergency number for over 3 weeks? What about those people that actually need consular help? I saw a very old woman shaking and waiting in front of the door for more than 2 hours that the building's security staff had to come and interfere, and that was when the staff finally opened the door. It has been the most "mind-blowing" and dreadful, plus frustrating experience I have ever encountered with foreign consulates/embassies in North America, comparable to how I always imagined North Korea. PS: attached are what have been showing on the door, and people were not impressed with it! Angry comments were written on the note. Instead of printing a new note, they just cut off people's madly written comments and "creatively" glued several pieces together. Sigh!

I really love the "new" Consulate of Romania. The website is far than perfect, but the actual office is really nice, clean and a joy to get inside, it reminds me of beautiful Europe. People working there are knowledgeable, kind and professional. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

Greate experience, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to see how smooth the process of renewing our passports and getting a power of attorney document went up today. Thanks

We, my wife and I were here to notarize some documents. From the booking and until the documentation was finished, we received a VERY PROFESSIONAL and an OUTSTANDING COMPETENT assistance from the Consular team which works here under the Mr. Gherghe management. We did not spent half day here, everything was smooth and the documents were issued ACCURATE and PRECISE. Clean location and very well organized. Appreciated very much the KINDNESS with which all the people who were around were treated. Nice to see well educated people talking nice and knowing their job.
