Three days ago I brought my bike over for a simple servicing procedure. Upon consultation I was told that I would have to also replace several parts of the bike, which in my opinion was unnecessary. After some uncomfortable back and forth, it was communicated to me that it would not be possible to get a service without ALSO replacing the parts. Unfortunately because I was time pressed, I decided to go ahead with their recommendations which ended up doubling my original budget of 50 pounds. Imagine my surprise and horror when this morning an employee called me to inform that yet another part needed to be replaced at an increased cost of 25 pounds. Despite telling them that I wished not to replace it, I was then told that it would not be possible to do the service/replace the other parts without the addition of this, and that if I was unwilling I would have to pick up the bike. Them having already held my bike for three days before identifying this new part which needed replacement has completely puzzled me. It is rather clear to me that this is nothing short of an attempt of upselling at the last minute, in the knowledge that most people would agree rather than send their bike off elsewhere for another week. While I appreciate the labour and effort put into my bike, their shady methods of securing my business was less than appreciated. At the end of the day, it ought to be the consumer who decides what is to be repaired/replaced and what is to be left as is. There is no reason whatsoever for a bike repair shop to refuse service entirely should a customer be unwilling to replace parts that do not need replacement. Do not leave your bike with this shop unless you want to waste a few days/be surprised by additional 'required' repairs at the last moment.

I found Walton Street Cycles to be quite shady. I bought a bike from them in 2018 knowing nothing about bicycles. I was honest about my ignorance when it came to cycling; I'd never bought a bike before, and I asked for their help in selecting a model. They jumped on my vulnerability and naivety immediately. In short, they sold me a child's bike. They said it would be 'perfect' for me and was made for someone my height. I tried it out, and it felt okay...for someone who hadn't ridden a bike in a decade. I paid, then left. Two months after riding around town on it, though, I was MISERABLE. It would go so slowly downhill that I was frequently overtaken by pedestrians. It was extremely difficult to pedal uphill, and it gave me horrible cramps from bending my legs. Eventually, my housemate kindly pointed out that she thought it was a child's bike. After some Googling, I was mortified to confirm that the exact model I was sold was meant for 11-13 year-old girls. I'm 25. My housemate encouraged me to try to return the bicycle. So I sucked up my pride and walked into the store—only to have one of the staff condescend to me, argue, and tell me 'not to believe everything [I] read on the internet'. He insisted the bike was an adult bike (it was just two-thirds the size of my female housemates' bikes and BRIGHT PINK). Or rather, he insisted that 'there's no such thing as child bikes. Only bikes for different heights.' All of this heated conversation took place in front of other customers, and I was so embarrassed that I went home and cried. No refund or return even entertained. The story is a laugh now, but I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this bike shop. (In case you're curious, I've since gotten a great bike from a guy who sells secondhand in Ox. I love it and take it everywhere—leg cramp free! The bike seller could not believe Walton Street Cycles had sold me the pink monstrosity and said "I wish you lots of luck trying to sell it to a kid.")

I rented I bicycle in Walton Street Cycles. Cycle was great, service was smooth, even when I change dates, there were no problems. I will be going there again.
