Vivo Escondido Hostel

Clean and, pretty much as advertised. Some commentators have mentioned the volunteer staff in a somewhat negative light... and, in there mild rebukes... They're not wrong. They are quite cliquey and not overly friendly to solo Travelers or particularly efficient at their jobs. Having said that most of them are helpful when a direct request is made. Also, no breakfast, despite what booking.com said. The best thing about this place is its utility when first arriving in Puerto Escondido. You can meet other Travelers at the poolside bar and get somewhat of an inside scoop on Puerto Escondido and the surrounding areas.

This is an objective review: The hostel itself is amazing. Everything you see in the photos are accurate. The downside is that it's mostly run by volunteers. When I was there the owner was away so it's very unorganized. Most of the time there's no one at reception. When I checked in I wasn't given a lot of information, no towel, no key, so I was locked outside at night and no one answered my call. My bed was also the worst I've ever slept on. I could feel every spring and my body was aching all over the next day. I asked if I could change bed the, they told me no problem, so I put my stuff on the new bed. When I came back that night, the manager's girlfriend walked to me straight and told me very rudely that that's her bed, and I should still be in my old bed and that my stuff have been removed from 'her bed'. The volunteers here have clearly formed their own group and it's not a welcoming vibe if you are a solo traveler. I was planning to book another week but after this incident, I left.

Their are plenty of hostels to choose from in Escondido but Vivo has this spoiled angel of a dog called Poncho. I stayed for that. Kidding great place I judge a place by its public toilets and it was cleaned everyday when I was their so kudos

There is no breakfasteven thoughit is advertised. They seem a bit unorganised many pplhad to swap beds. But auper nice staff, good location for the beach. Fair prized bar.
