We love Powell Vet so much and recommend them to everyone. We’ve been taking our rescue dog there for 3 years and have had wonderful experiences every time, and our dog has chronic health problems so we’re there a lot. Everyone at the front desk is a rock star and clearly loves working with animals. All of the vets are great, and always give clear explanations of what they are doing and what treatments they recommend. They also are very clear about costs, and when available they explain how we can try less expensive treatments first or how urgent a more expensive treatment is so if we need to save up money we know how long we have. They even helped hold off on an exploratory X-ray (possible luxating patella) until our dog needed to be sedated for a different issue so we wouldn’t have to pay for anesthesia twice. I rarely write reviews at all, but when I saw some 1 star reviews complaining about the cost I had to write one here. Vets cost money, sometimes a lot—that’s not specific to here. No matter how much anyone loves animals, they are running a business with employees and expenses—they can’t just give services away for free. **No one is getting rich being a vet!** Given the reality of the world, they do their best and they really try to work with you on cost. Everyone there is so caring and will take excellent care of your furry family members.

I have been taking my pet there for over a year. Staff has been pleasant, so that's not where they lose all their stars. It's with the actual ability of the vets. My cat has been having a particular issue for over a year. I've repeatedly, which adds up, have brought cat in to have it checked. Was actually in just 2 weeks ago SPECIFICALLY for his issue. Asked very specific questions about it, gave specific symptoms, asked about possible infection, and had another question about something else. NOTHING. No medications to relieve symptoms, or suggestions or anything. Took my cat to another Vet for his teeth and didn't mention much about his other issues because Powell Vet didn't come up with anything. The NEW vet caught everything and then some without me even bringing up the issue. He has asthma! Also believe he has a secondary infection and he has antibiotics. For they peripheral question I asked PV. They caught that too. I'll have to drive a bit to other vet but well worth it.

When I started coming to Powell Veterinary Center, they recommended that I get my senior dog onto their wellness plan. I did so and have been paying monthly for his wellness plan to cover the costs of visits and procedures. I was just informed by Powell that they will be cancelling the adult and senior wellness plans for good, no longer offering them to new clients and not renewing them after they expire after 1 year. The woman I spoke to mentioned that the wellness plans were hurting the company financially.nnI am just confused as to why they would pressure me into a monthly wellness plan and then scrap the program. Most third-party pet insurers either won't cover new senior dogs or the cost is exorbitant.nnMy only conclusion is that this practice prioritizes profit over the health and care of pets. It seems they'd rather have customers pay the highest price possible for services and care rather than offering peace of mind and coverage of visits under the wellness plans.nnTake your pet and your money somewhere that cares.

Took my three year old cat there for a checkup and to address some concerns about her vomiting and lethargy. During the visit I was asked if they could trim her claws. I said it was fine. They neglected to mention I would be charged additionally for it.nn$210 later I have no additional information about what might be wrong with my cat and 2 doses of anti nausea medication. That’s a lot of money for me, but my cat’s life is priceless to me.nnWhen I got her home, I noticed that her claws had been cut so short there is blot clots on them, and her paws clearly hurt her.nnThis was the last chance for this place. They’ve been overpriced and unhelpful in the past (charging me $150 to do nothing but vaguely refer me to a “specialist” - not even telling me what kind of specialist) but this I cannot abide.nnI would not recommend Powell Vet to anyone.

I am so happy to have recently rediscovered Dr. Melissa Flora at Powell Veterinary Center! Dr. Flora used to care for my dog at Two Rivers Veterinary Clinic and I was very happy with the care, but when she left I stayed with Two Rivers as it is close to my house. Long story short but after a few unhappy experiences at Two Rivers and their inability to get a blood draw from my dog to address a seizure disorder, even with sedation and considerable stress for my already anxious dog, I switched to follow Dr. Flora at Powell Vet. Yesterday I took my dog in for the dreaded blood draw, without much hope that they would be successful, and I was surprised and happy to see my dog trotting toward me with the technician after barely getting back to my car to wait. They had a game plan and got it done in a matter of minutes! And in contrast to the unsuccessful experience at Two Rivers my dog didn’t even seem rattled. Thank you Dr. Flora and the Powell Vet team!So happy my dog is getting thorough and considerate care!
