Manahawkin Veterinary Hospital

I visited Manahawkin Vet Hospital  on Tuesday June 30th.nThe doctor who saw me and my dog was Dr Dale Bodman.nnMy dog ( who is 12 lbs) had almost been killed by a neighbors dog ‪on Tuesday night‬.nShe had  deep puncture wounds in the hind quarters and 1 back leg.nThe wounds were  very deep and were bleeding.nMy friend and I were extremely upset as we both witnessed the attack which was within 10 feet of us.nIt was horrific to watch and hear her screams.nThe vet assistant was very nice helping to carry my dog in and taking us right into room but Dr.Bodman told me [and my friend with me] to leave the examining room as he thought we were upsetting the dog even more.nAfter being called back into the room Dr told usnhe wasn't going to suture any of the puncture wounds as he thought the wounds should bleed out any infections that may have occurred.nWe thought this was strange but went along with his recommendation..nThe dog was in an extreme amount of pain and it was obvious.nnThe doctor gave her a shot of anti inflammatory medicine and anti inflammatory pills and antibiotics for her.nThis is where it gets very upsetting.....nThe doctor did not offer or prescribe ANY pain medicine NOR did he give me a dog cone  so she would not lick her wounds and get it more infected??!!.nWe took her home and carefully watched her the next couple of days.nShe was in extreme pain and she had no dog cone to protect the open wounds from being licked and possible get infected. On Fri morning I called the vet office to speak with Dr Bodman about my concerns with the wound that looked like it was getting infected and other questions. He didn’t return my call until 6:00 PM. And unfortunately I missed it , so I called him back 3 times but never talked to him.nBy Sunday, the dog was in dire shape because one wound the dog licked became incredibly infected and enlarged !nSo we took her to another vet on an emergency basis who could not believe that the dog was not prescribed  pain medicine!!nnThe new Doctor saw the problem immediately.The new doctor was visibly upset with the prior treatment we received and the medicine we were givennShe was in so much pain they could not  even move her to even take x-rays to make sure the infection did not get into here abdomen.nThey had to sedate her just to take X-rays!!nnAfter the sedation and pain medicine kicked in they were able to move her and take x-rays.nnThe infection was not in her abdomen but it was so deep that the Dr. had to perform emergency surgery to clean out the area.nHe also put a draining tube in her and used 8-10 stitches to sew her up and gave her very strong antibiotic and pain medicine.nThe cost was almost $1000!!!nnAfter 6 + hours in the waiting area [or outside] we were able to take her home.nShe is now resting [uncomfortably] but resting.nDr.Bodman is NOT a doctor I would ever use again as he displayed  extremely poor judgement  in treating my dog.nnI hope everyone reads this and uses another doctor who knows how to take care of very injured [and in obvious extreme pain] dogs!

Staff and assistants are nice, helpful and cannot say enough nice things about them. Being honest, the vets here are kind of smug. I'd avoid at all costs, especially the guy. He's a real weirdo, just do your job and quit laying your weird personalities across everyone. You can tell they're not from around the area.nnStrange vibes about this place.

Great place and a friendly veterinarian. People at front desk are very helpful and friendly as well. Definitely recommend this place for your pets.

We were on the island for the weekend when we became concerned for our dog today. He was obviously not well. The office took him right away. We so appreciated the kindness that was shown. Our sweet dog is going to be okay. Thanks so much again!!

Not very good service as they only have one doctor at both locations . My appointment has been moved 3 times in 2 days . I do not recommend them at all
