Came to this vet by a recommendation. Handed over our our at about 10 AM. Was told to pick him up at 5 PM but that they’d probably be done earlier and they’d call. They didn’t call. Showed up at 5 and learned that the vet rents space there - he’s not a practicing doctor in that clinic. Also learned that I wasn’t going to get my dog back then. No call, no update. An hour later I get a text saying my dog just came out of surgery. So he’d been sedated for 8 hours. But I actually don’t believe he was out of surgery then. I called and finally got an answer and they said to pick him up at 8 PM. I showed up at 8 and called from the parking lot and they pressed me to leave him there until the next day. I denied that, and they handed over a dog that appeared dead save for the imperceptible breathing. I found out through conversation that he’d been drugged again on morphine because he was “barking too much” after I’d called from the parking lot. I was given a multitude of excuses. Bottom line for me: my dog was sedated from 10 AM til past 8 PM: over 10 hours. The surgery was successful, but I lived from 5 PM til when I put him in my car after 8 PM, barely breathing, thinking that he was dead and the vet was trying to cover it up. No communication. Unclear affiliation with the clinic he operates from. Ask your vet for a different recommendation.
Seldom have I experienced such care and integrity. Dr. Belandria is an extraordinary veterinary surgeon which we experienced before and after a complex surgery for our 10 month old mini dachshund. Our puppy had elbow dysplasia, a rare congenital condition, especially for a dachshund. Although Dr. B described to me his intended surgical approach, he consulted with his colleagues to discuss my puppy's condition which only underscored my confidence in our choice of surgeons. I completely appreciated his thoroughness. He also put up with all of my questions after doing my own research. Dr. B is holistic in his approach making sure he bonded with my dog and gaining his trust. He truly cares. Dr. B performed a proximal dynamic ulnar osteotomy three weeks ago and also taught me how to do PT which is critical. Our puppy is doing great. He's running around our backyard and the x-rays show incredible improvement. Dog elbow joints are extremely complex, as I now know, so it's remarkable. I highly recommend Dr. Belandria for any animal surgery.
Dr. Belandria is an incredible surgeon. He is very personable and truly cares about animals. My cat was in desperate need of an emergency surgery because he had a urinary blockage/swollen urethra. This is a very common issue that male cats encounter later on in life. The surgery is usually very very expensive. Dr. Belandria was the most skilled and one of the least expensive surgeons available and he was very attentive. He answered my calls after hours and around the clock. He sent me personal text messages 24/7 to check on my cat, Gomez. He was truly concerned for my cat and wanted to ensure that he got better. He knows what he is doing and is very detailed when informing me of what surgery he will perform and what he will be doing to help my cat. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Belandria and I know my cat is in good hands! I am incredibly thankful I found Dr. Belandria because I don't know if my cat would have survived with out Dr. Belandria's extensive knowledge and surgery skills. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Belandria. Your pet will too!
Dr. B is by far the best vet that I have worked with. The rescue that I foster with recommended him when my own dog tore his CCL. He required TPLO surgery and it was our first time with this particular operation. Our own vet gave a brief overview of the surgery and we decided to get a second opinion. We are so grateful we did. Dr. B has his own practice, so from the very first appt. to the pick up time and beyond you will be working with the vet himself. This vet truly cares and boy does it show! He met with us for about two hours to review the x rays and procedure in detail. He showed us where our pup’s individual injury was and what our options were. When our pup expressed any nervousness, he would stop and start again. He also allowed him to get comfortable in his office during the consultation. I’ve never seen our dog so comfortable and at ease at the vet! The day of surgery he was in communication throughout the day and really catered the care to our dog. He notified us that he was on pain medication that may cause side effects and walked us through what to expect. He continued to follow-up in the days and weeks after surgery. He even gave us such detailed post op directions that we were able to avoid any PT and our dog is using his knee again as if he had never injured it. For such an important decision I cannot recommend Dr. B enough. He explained that he gave up working for the chain vets out there so that he can really build a relationship with his patients and the time and care he takes prove that to be true.
What can I say about Dr. Belandria! He is a wonderful animal surgeon and has become family. Our 9 year old Siberian Husky Jasmine had to have her first TPLO surgery two years ago on her right leg. Dr. Belandria was referred to us by our vet with two other places. When calling the other facilities they just seemed cold. When we called Dr. Belandria he made us feel safe and explained to us what was going on with our girl and we set up a consultation. His price was also more reasonable than the other places. When we arrived he was so inviting and personable. He made sure that he became friends with Jasmine to make her feel comfortable. She does not like being in a vets office at all. And oh my he is the dog whisperer. She fell in love with him. They became friends instantly. They day of the surgery he went over the procedure with us once again and made us feel comfortable. When she was finished she was still groggy. We got her home and Dr. B checked on her that night, and the following morning and the days and weeks after. When we went for her x-ray she was so excited to see him. The results were fantastic, she was healing perfect. Two years later with the lovely Covid-19 going on we were in the same situation with needing to have the same surgery on her left leg. The minute we knew she needed surgery we called Dr. B and he got us in as soon as possible. We went to go see him and had our consult outside. Once again she was excited to see her friend. He looked her over and explained to us once again the procedure and then we sat there for almost two more hours just talking and catching up. The day of surgery we got her there at the time he asked us to. We were able to pick her up at 9:30pm that night. Unfortunately he had an emergency that he had to get to so he couldn't get to jasmine right away. He kept in communication with us throughout the whole day. When we arrived he helped my husband put her in the vehicle. He went over all of the information we need for after care as well as the medication. He was also nice and made us some slings to use for her. Once again he checked on her like always. We went last week and had her sutures removed and showed him how wonderful she was doing. And once again sat and talked for about almost 2 hours. I don't know what we would have done if we didn't chose Dr. Belandria to conduct her TPLO surgery. I am very grateful for having him for her surgeon and a part of our family. I highly recommend him to anyone needing TPLO surgery or whatever other kind of surgery is needed.
