My dog has been dealing with allergies all her life and we’re usually able to keep it under control with apoquel. Well she had an outbreak from us not giving her apoquel because she had been doing well for over 6mo without it. After we tried to give her apoquel for a week without her responding to it I made an appointment with Redwood because my primary care veterinarian (care veterinarian) was booked out for the whole month. My boyfriend took her to the appointment. He said they took her straight in and did biopsy and testing on her because they thought she had skin cancer which I told my bf was bs. They put her on enrofloxacin for her skin infection, failed to treat her for what caused her infection, her allergies, so the whole week we waited for the results of the biopsy her skin infection got 10xs worse because the antibiotics weren’t working and she was still itching. The day they called us about the results her forearms and paws had swelled up, I had to take her to the emergency vet in Fresno. They told me to stop giving her the enrofloxacin and to give her cephalexin instead because cephalexin is specifically for skin infections. They said she needed a dermatologist because they’re not experts on skin conditions and she my dog had a unique skin infection and there was no point to do biopsy’s on her. They said they would give her steroids for her itchiness but it could mess up testing that the dermatologist would do on her so recommended not to. Meanwhile, care veterinarian called to check in on her and said they would make time to see her. He gave her an anti-inflammation medication to treat her swelling, and apoquel just to keep her comfortable until she sees the dermatologist. My dog looked significantly better by the time I got her to the dermatologist two days later. The dermatologist said she had a deep skin infection and that they would need to test the bacteria to determine the specific type of antibiotics that she should take which would take about a week to get the results so recommended keeping her on the cephalexin and said she should have never been put on the antibiotics Redwood gave her because they do nothing for skin infections. The dermatologist said the reason my dog wasn’t responding to the apoquel, when I initially gave it to her prior to seeing any vet, was that she already had a skin infection and the skin infection would need to be treated for it to work. I’m still waiting on the results from my dermatologist and my dog skin is already significantly better with just the apoquel and cephalexin. We paid $600 to Redwood for skin cancer testing which wasn’t the problem just so my dogs skin condition could get worse which caused me to spend another $500 at a dermatologist which could have been prevented if they just gave her her cephalexin and a steroid or more apoquel for her allergies which is what care veterinarian normally do for her skin. The vet at Redwood just wanted to make $, clearly has Poor ethics. It’s sad I knew what my dogs condition was and the vet didn’t. She said she couldn’t give my dog medication for her itchiness without figuring out her underlying problem, said her itchiness had nothing to do with her allergies.

Super friendly and efficient, even during Covid. Well done!

Unfortunately I had to come here for the end of my dog's life. They were very understanding and caring. They showed my dog love and myself compassion. During Covid they were very professional and safe, but also understanding of my family needing to say goodbye. It was not overpriced and was considered an emergency walk in. We will bring our other dog for future vet needs.

I feel very conflicted about leaving this review. Part of me thinks I should be more generous, part of me thinks I should be harsher.nnI brought in my indoor/outdoor cat after he broke his tooth in a fight and it looked like it might get infected. I was able to get an appointment the same day, for which I was very grateful.nnThe staff were attentive, thorough and handling him very nicely. The course of treatment they recommended was reasonable. So why only 3 stars?nnTheir prices are INSANE. For a tooth extraction, anesthesia, neutering and round of vaccinations they quoted me between $1100-1900 and said if all of those services were performed it was likely to be on the higher end. I find this hard to justify, especially in Tulare County where so many people have to live with so little. I was able to get the same set of procedures plus a worm treatment for less than $650 at another local pet hospital, which I've reviewed elsewhere.nnThat is the main reason why I would hesitate to recommend them. If cost is no object, I guess they're a safe bet!
