The entire Dortch-Williamson Funeral and Cremation Services Family were outstanding!!! They handled everything with care and detail. Whenever we had questions or concerns, they addressed them immediately and followed up to ensure we were all on the same page and satisfied. Every detail was correct, even with last minute changes or requests. My mother's memorial service was outstanding! I appreciate the Dortch-Williamson Family for guiding me through this experience with kindness, compassion, and patience. It was an additional honor bestowed upon my family to have my mother cared for by this team. Me, my siblings and my entire family thank you for absolutely everything!!!

(Lack of sensitivity and compassion) Two men crudely carried my mother past the family like a makeshift, human swing, as they shuffled their feet across the floor, and placed her “less than gently” onto the gurney which was left at the front door (instead of wheeling it closer to her main floor bedroom as EMT's, before, have been able to do). She was barely 100 lbs., so this was totally unnecessary and unacceptable! We would have carried her ourselves to the gurney, with dignity and respect, if we had known that was their intended method. The callous way they placed her in the transport van while our family was standing there praying for her was quite off putting as well. (Lack of communication) Apparently during the preparation process, something created a bulge on her neck and her hands started to become severely discolored. If advised of this in advance, we could have brought gloves with us to the final approval vs. having to scramble to find some and make an additional trip to have them placed on her hands. Regarding the bulge, her necklace had to be unnaturally placed to hide it. (Lack of organization) Before the viewing, they forgot to provide the guest register in the room (as we noticed was done with a concurrent funeral). We requested one from the front desk attendant. He indicated he would retrieve one and bring it to the room. However, it took 3-4 requests and approximately 40 minutes to receive one, and we missed several signatures. I received two different, unrelated explanations from two different individuals as to why that task was not performed in advance. (Lack of professionalism) During one of the register/sign-in book inquiries, the front desk attendant was overheard discussing the status of a cremation on SPEAKER PHONE in the lobby. The day of the funeral, they were late picking up the family. They drove a 3-wheeled Slingshot equipped with flashing lights at the front of the funeral procession: That vehicle would only be appropriate at a car show. I mention this because the radio was being played from it and could be heard while at the grave site. They did not provide any flags or stickers to identify the less than a dozen cars driving in the procession. They were playing a hip-hop radio station in the family car on the way to the cemetery vs. asking if we had a preference (different style or, better still, turned off). But the driver did change it immediately when we requested it. (Lack of organization/communication) Poor instructions were provided to the pallbearers and they did not provide them with the white gloves, before the carry. One of the “non-spray” arrangements was removed from the vehicle, unbeknownst to us, and left at the grave site. We contacted the funeral home regarding a missing floral delivery of which we had learned, post-funeral. They indicated they found it (a day later), along with our easel used for her photo, in their transport vehicle. They certainly treated my mother like just another “job” and not like the dignified woman she was. One of our young family members stated it best: “Close and convenient does not equal quality.” An abundance of customer service training with a deep dive focus on sensitivity and professionalism is a MUST for this organization before they should be entrusted to handle anyone else’s loved one. Will never recommend them to anyone!

I had never thought I would have to plan my daddy's funeral. Mr. Terrance helped me the entire way, my Daddy's celebration of life was everything I prayed for. Everything he deserved, because of this funeral home. I wish every family going through what I went could go here. These are the type of people you want handling the ones closest to your heart. They listened, they cared, they were patient, intuitive, understanding, compassionate, empathetic, list goes on. Thank you Dortch-Williamson, I cannot express my appreciation enough, I cannot even sleep thinking of how great my Daddy's service was today!
