Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital

There was miscommunication on drop off appointment for my dog. We live 1 hour away, we were worked in to be seen, so we accepted the appointment. In an effort not to be late I ended up arriving early. A total of 4 separate staff thought it had to be verbalized how I wasn't supposed to be there for another hour. Nothing like being reminded over and over how they aren't happy with my efforts for my sick dog which I would be leaving in their care. We called around 3:30 pm to see if there was any update, there wasn't. I got a call around 4:45 pm to head over to pick him up and Vet would talk with me when I arrived. I showed up, Vet talked with me but no detailed information was provided in writing (either tangible or email). After asking how I am to pay, staff said email had been sent to me and it needs to be paid prior to leaving. I asked if instructions were provided in email she said yes. Instructions were emailed 3 days later. When we finally got home, 1 1/2 hr later, I found the dog food I handed the Vet Tech at 7:30 am that morning. My poor dog sat there all day, I can't say with certainty if he was or wasn't fed. Staff is quick to point out what I did wrong but their communication is lacking. If it wasn't for the fact my dog needs a specialist, one of only two in the Austin area is at this location. Otherwise no way I would return here. They had said I would receive a call prior to any treatment being performed, that didn't occur. $300+ later they are recommending we return later. Oh and apparently my dog had been on the wrong medication prior to being seen. Some way, some how, 2 other Vets who communicated with this Vet at this location received the wrong information about 4 medications. Miscommunication all around. I appreciate the expertise of the Vet but there are so many other things I'm not impressed with. This review pertains to their South location.

This place is wonderfully. The last moments of my sweet doggy was the best I could wish for her. They installed her in their park where we could spend sometimes with her surrounded by her family, they gave her some chicken to eat and she was put asleep peacefully in the park. Despite the pain we have, it was very reassuring to know that her last moments were the best we could wish for her.nI would like to have my passing the same way as my wonderful doggie did!nThank you so much to all of you at Central Texas Veterinary for your compassionate ❤

0% compassion 100% runaround. My dog has lymphoma. To schedule an appointment with their specialist you need a referral from your vet. No big deal. Vet sends it. It takes their system 24 hours to receive the referral. I call in the next day and they finally have it. They then proceed to tell me their next availability is 3 weeks out knowing my dog has lymphoma. She could be dead by then! Complete lack of caring and compassion. Be careful trusting your pet with them!

This place is a circus of disinformation. Every person you speak to will say the opposite of what the last said. Go ahead and give a couple calls at different times (if you can get through) and ask the same questions with another person- you'll get different answers. It's mind blowing how this business operates.nn-Told wrong information on phone call one regarding surgery.nn-Told wrong information next day on phone call two regarding walk ins.nn-Told wrong information upon arrival regarding vet referrals for surgery.nn-Told wrong information about what is/isn't being done to dog. (nothing was done)nn- They knew they had messed up multiple times, some even admitted it. Then chose to charge me full price when nothing was done for my dog which I was told would be done. Nothing was done at all actually.nnRefused to charge anything different even though acknowledging multiple errors on their part.nn3 hour wait for to top it all off.nnThey even admitted to me their two departments do not communicate, one really knows nothing about the other.nnAvoid this place if at all possible, it's a joke.

The staff (esp. the receiving nurse) was pleasant, compassionate andnprofessional. The examining doctor was thorough and asked a lot of questions and listened to the answers and provided caring advice. The price was fair and reasonable. The payment (invoice) procedure was lengthy and cumbersome. Overall, a good experience for my dog and me.
