I have always had very positive experiences with NorthPaws. I've had three different dogs I have brought here. I started with Dr. Mark Paradise, the owner and he truly had a true love for animals. I remember one time, I was laid off my job and he charged me a very small fee for an infection my dog had. Yesterday, I took my 15 year old Vizsla for his annual check up. Dr. Connolly is very thorough. No complaints, just good things to say about this place.
I had to put my dog to sleep yesterday. The plan was to do it peacefully at home the following Saturday with family around. Anyway, my dog was suffering from severe arthritis and it was getting worse, so the vet prescribed a very strong opioid. I talked it over a few different times with the vet and the vet techs and they made it seem like he would be on the tired side but “just be comfortable” anyway, that was not the case he was confused , not himself at all, he stopped eating and drinking altogether. I called them to tell them what was happening and a vet tech said that she would speak to the doctor, so I was put on hold, well when they came back to the phone I was then speaking to a different vet tech, not the same one, not even the vet, and this vet tech then told me me that a certain percentage of dogs respond this way, the percentage was like 40% or something like that, pretty high percentage. He then told me they could provide me with syringes to feed and give my little guy water and since it was after hours they’d put them in the Dropbox.nWhat I’m mad about is I feel like the vet should have let me know how powerful this medication was and prepared me for what could potentially happen, because in my mind I was thinking okay he was just going to be extra tired and really comfortable, cause that’s how she made it seem. Although by the second night not only was my dog not comfortable he was not himself and he was very confused and restless. The point here is, is that I wish she had prepared me better, I wish she had been more forthcoming about this medication, and I wish his last week with us hadn’t been like this. We couldn’t even wait for Saturday to come to do the home euthanasia, because now I had a dog that not only was in pain, but now extremely hungry and thirsty but refused to eat and drink due to this strong medication. Also, this vet wanted to put him on it weeks ago, thank god my husband and I decided not to do it earlier. We only decided to do it for his last week so he could be very comfortable, which sadly ended up not being the case at all. The fact that once he already had the shot and was home having issues and I was learning how strong this medication was from the vet tech after the fact infuriates me, the vet should have informed me of what the vet tech did after my dog had already had this injection. Yes, I’m aware anything in the opioid family will be strong, but I was thinking again, he’d just sleep peacefully and I had no idea he’d stop eating and drinking. Why would the vet want to put him on this medication weeks prior? Also, I thought it would depend on the dosage and maybe they just were doing a small dosage and that’s why she kept saying “just comfortable” but nope, my dog ended up being a mess at the end. She really down played how strong this medication was.nnI needed the vet to be more forthcoming and provide me with syringes THE NIGHT HE GOT the shot so we could be prepared, and warn me that he might stop eating and drinking.nI needed the vet to guide me more and strongly recommend he go on his old medication adequan and never suggest a drug that would make my dog so out of it. This is not how I wanted to remember my dog, he didn’t sleep peacefully at the end like I thought he would on this medication. He was scared, restless and still had pain and now added pain from hunger. I’m very sad. I literally have not stopped crying.
I've been taking my four legged family members to North Paws for years.nthe staff is professional and friendly. Dr. Dyer is the best ever. He reallyncares about his patients and always has the time to explain in terms wenunderstand what's wrong if anything with our four legged family members. North paws is second to none and I would not consider going to any other vet. Ann M Rotondi
Took my very sick cat that I’ve owned for 10 years, he had been losing weight, howling, and vomiting for weeks. They spent 5 minutes with him no labs or anything, I was sent home after paying $130 and being told he was fine. Woke up at 6:30 the following morning to him howling and lethargic and an hour later I heard him howl again and he was dead!!!! This place should be embarrassed to call themselves a animal hospital!!!!!
I took my dog Baker there yesterday check-up and a growth that he had between his nails. The doctor wasnDr Carolyn Vasque she was extremely very thorough with his examination and I'm having some extra blood work done. They were doing curbside pickup. The doctor and the tech Christina were phenomenal they didn't have to muzzle him to look at his paw. He was treated with love and kindness and I'm grateful for that. The doctor called me on the phone and spoke to me extensively about Baker's exam. I'm so grateful. I've been taking Baker there for almost 12 years. ud83dudc15❤ud83dudc83ud83cudf1e❤
