This was our last day with our baby. Our pain runs so deep and the tears aren't going away. But I did want to share his story and also how truly impressed we were with the Pet Vet Hospital in Salt Lake. I had cold called the Pet Vet Hospital at 7:45pm on Friday evening because Polu had a bloated belly, he was lethargic, and had stopped eating. He looked sick and told us with his eyes and constant wanting of hugs and cuddles. They told me to bring him down immediately. We parked the car in one of their stalls and texted them with our arrival. They came out within 10 minutes. I asked if I could muzzle him as a precaution. They said sure, and it's not like Polu is a biter, he just has a history of not liking needles and vet visits. Because of covid, humans are not allowed in the office, so off he went with the nurse. I'm not sure if her title is nurse but she was amazing and resembled one. With her stethoscope and note pad and calm and caring demeanor, off they went. Doctor Onaga called us about 15 minutes later. He had done a chest Xray and explained that he didnt see anything definitive but did confirm that polu had a build up of fluid around his belly. He wanted to do a deeper analysis with a radiologist and told us to take Polu home and come back at 8am to do an ultrasound. Our boy came out with no muzzle and wagging his tale. They said he was good boy. I slept with Polu that night and cuddled with him. He had labored breathing and just couldn't get comfortable with his bloated belly. But he was exhausted and fell asleep right next to me. Next morning, Dr. Onaga led with a 7am follow up call, Polu's heart looked enlarged and the reasons could be heart disease or pericardial infusion which both could possible be the cause of fluid around his belly. We headed back at 8am. Doctor Onaga met us outside, and went over the game plan. An ultrasound was performed and he was diagnosed with hermangiosarcoma. He had a mass at the base of his heart, that was causing a build up of blood in the sac around the heart which was constricting his heart function and the build up of fluid around the belly was a direct result of this as well. His prognosis was bleak and we had to make the hardest decision that no pet owner wants to make. Dr. Onaga explained everything with the utmost professionalism and compassion as we cried and wailed. He told us to take our time and call them when we decided. They brought Polu out so we could say good bye and give our last kisses. My bf, daughter and myself were led to an outdoor play area where my baby would take his last breath. Polu sat up tall like he always did. We always said he sat like a lion. And then he fell asleep, crossing over the rainbow bridge to meet all our other babies that awaited him.nThe vet offers cremation, we will get him back in week.nI wanted to share this because Pet Vet Hospital was first class. They treated our baby like a human. That is exactly what we took away from our experience. I can't put into words how impressed we were.nDr. Onaga and staff was the best I've seen from any vet and we've been to many vets. Although, our ending is very sad, we are happy that our baby was under their care. Mahalo Pet Vet Clinic, salt lake.

I was taking my 3 dogs to another vet their whole life until my mom decided to try another vet. Between the pet clinic and honolulu pet clinic, we chose the pet clinic accidentally. But fortunately the staff here is so nice and we love Dr harada, so we stayed! He is so kind, personable, and I can tell he really cares about the pets. He never rushes and always asks how are the other doggies doing. Unfortunately the prices we pay here are higher than our original vet but I can tell the quality of care is top notch!

The vet docs and staff are highly trained and friendly. :) They also have a bunny specialist, which is pretty hard to find here on Oahu. They have reasonable prices to lodge your pet (your pet has to be a patient), and they take good care of them. They also sell good quality stuff (like toothpaste and shampoo for ur dog) and have recommendations if you want more options. Awesome people. :)

We have trusted Dr. Scott with our dogs for the past five years. He is, unquestionably, the best DVM I have encountered in 30 years. He is brilliant, vigilant, and demonstrates each visit that he loves and cares deeply for all of God's creatures. The entire team at The Pet Clinic is the gold standard.
