Born and raised in Athens, Texas--I would not recommended this funeral home for your love ones. The type of services currently being provided by the Garrett's is substandard in comparison to previous years.nnThe previous funeral director is remembered with respect for the way she took care of funeral matters in a timely matter. She was on point and did an exceptional job for the people in Athens. She made you feel like the responsibilities of the funeral home would be taken care. It proved to be true time and time again as I used the services in the past.nnI will not go into specific about my family member. However, I will say long after the funeral there are business matters that need to be taken care of regarding the death. Business that is currently on hold until proof of death is established through a service provided by the funeral.nnFamilies need to be able to grieve knowing that the responsibilities of the funeral home will be handled in a timely manner. How can we truly have closer and heal without taking care of such matter?nnTo the people of Athens, please do not feel limited in your choices for a funeral home. There are funeral homes that will travel to where you are and provide such services.
We lost our daughter in a tragic accident in December, we chose this funeral home because they said they did the cremation locally and we would have her remains back promptly for her services. They lied, they do no do them locally they charges extra to transport her body from the facility the city had sent her to and then did not give us her personal belongings stating they hadnt picked them up 3 days later they turned out to be in their van. They wanted us to drive 45 miles to retrieve them to the facility in which they run their headquaryers from...not locally. They promised her remains on a wednesday they were a week late in which we learned they did not have thier own cremation facility, in fact they had shipped her body somewhere else. They argued with my husband about a reciept after we paid cash then gave us a small hand written reciept. For 6 months their owner has been unavailible to return my calls or provide an electronic reciept. They promised her remains in a nice leather box since her urn wouldn't arrive in time, they did not offer us any other options. Her remains came in a cheap hard plastic box. They also never picked up or paid for the death certificates as promised I was left to do that as well.
