In the first year of the plague I wasn't allowed to go into the vet's office with my furry babies. Instead I parked outside and called to let them know I had arrived.
My girls are usually pretty calm, and we'd been practicing getting into the carriers all month, motivated by fish cookie treats. But they were still twittering in apprehension, asking me why they were spending so long inside their boxes this time.
The last two years I've got to go in with them, and the doctor has been great. She and her aids answered all my questions and gave me solutions to problems, like one kitty not getting enough water (we bought a cat fountain) and the other having dirty teeth.
So this trip it was hard for me, as well as my girls, to be separated this time. I just sat outside while they were gently prodded and given their rabies vaccine.
I hope it wasn't too hard to get them back in their carriers. Usually I help with that.
An office aid brought them both out to me, one ten pounds cat carried on each side. She swiped my card while I buckled my babies in, and handed me their new tags and paper work. The three of us were relived to get home and eat lunch and curl up on a cushion.
Over all, despite COVID, we had a normal vet experience, and everyone is fine. A couple of fish cookies can help yo get over anything.
Amazing staff helped out puppy when we weren't able to pay. They were so loving and kind to our Little Harley we couldn't have asked fir more!!!
So the care of Doctor Ponses (Ponsey? Ponsay. Sorry, terrible with names) is worth the headache that is her tech system. She is efficient, professional, and compassionate. However- the technical system they run on is an absolute mess. They STILL have me in the system under my dad's name, he hasn't lived in this state for 20 years, and I've been going to this vet at least once a year since, asked them to change it pretty much every time I go, never sticks. Also, they used to regularly call to ask if my deceased dog wanted a check-up... He's been gone since 2013... Of old age... He would be 26 years old if he were still around. They only stopped once i made it clear how upset that made me. I'm not sure why the system is like that. I absolutely don't blame the staff, I'm sure it can't be easy working with that mess.
Really wanted to give this place a chance but ended up leaving for another vet. They were one of the only places near us in Salt Lake taking new clients and a friend referred us here.
We scheduled an appointment for 9:30 am on a Friday, showed up on time, and they didn't see us for 30 minutes. By the time everything was finished it had been over 1 hour for a checkup and shots. Prices here were reasonable, but quickly got expensive.
Our puppy was having diarrhea and we had a fecal sample taken. It came back positive for coccidia, relatively common and easy to treat. We decided to get the prescription filled through them and was appalled at the price. It was $65 for 14 250 mg Albon tablets. For reference, you can get these same tablets at any online pet pharmacy for less than $10. That's nearly a 1000% mark-up! I really do want to support local businesses but that much of a mark-up is unacceptable. On top of that, when I went to pick up the medication the clerk just handed me the pills with no explanation or instructions from the actual vet.
Overall really wanted to give this place a shot but unfortunately feel like they care more about making money than actually helping their customers.
Dr. Ponce is an excellent veterinarian who cares very much about her clients and patients.
