The vet takes days to answer a call back even after multiple messages left, I understand the vet may work at other places, but can't the attending vet call back? had two emergencies and spent 5 hours the first time. The second time I showed up at 830, was told it would be two hours and by 1030 spoke to the vet he said an hour, I called at 1153pm to find out what was wrong and they were just getting started with the procedure. It is now 1AM and I was told the procedure is starting immediately and I was just offered to go home and come back. I was also informed I was told three hours ago to go home, which I wasn't. I'm not sure what other emergencies were present but knowing I've been sitting outside since 830pm one would think a text, or a phone call or anything would go out to me telling me there was another emergency more important than yours please go home and come back.nnIt is clear if the procedure is not expensive then the emergency is not that important. Why would I spend $500.00 a visit if they don't have the decency of being told I'm not that important? I get it money moves the world but this is absurd, I've spent about 5k at this place in the last 2 months.
My 6 y/o dog dislocated his hip and was in extreme shock and pain. VCA was as attentive and responsive as possible given the numerous other pets they were taking care of at the same time. They clearly explained to me his condition and their recommendations and provided a written document outlining next steps. They made me feel at ease with their care and didn't place any pressure/added stress on how to handle his condition. After reviewing other hospitals and speaking with other owners on surgery options, I chose Dr. Horowitz at VCA for my dog's FHO surgery. I am extremely grateful I chose to take him to VCA as he's now happy and back in good health.
I brought in my perfectly healthy 12 year old cat Sadie in for aspiration ammonia. Unfortunately my cat had three teeth pulled out at my vets office and the vet did not allow her enough time to recover from the anesthesia. When they went to move her into a carrier to go home (1 1/2 hour after surgery) she got nauseous and vomited and aspirated. She was still so out of it from the anesthesia that when she vomited she was too weak and pretty much choked to death. The vet was able to stabilize her but she needed to be brought to an emergency center immediately. Now the problem was ammonia. she needed to be put into an oxygen tank. We chose veterinary emergency referral Center, in Westbury New York. I’ve had my cats there on several occasions for different issues and I’ve always had a positive experience. My cat needed to be put into an oxygen chamber and her chances were 50-50 that she would survive. Number one do not do well with ammonia, And secondly because she aspirated and she literally pretty much died and was resuscitated by the vet that did her surgery the chance of having kidney damage were high from this horrible tragedy. Veterinary emergency referral was notified that we were on our way. As soon as I pulled up somebody was there to take my cat and put her in an oxygen tank. They stabilized her for 48 hours and then they ran tests on her kidneys, her blood, her chest etc they did everything possible. Long and short of it is my cat stayed there for 10 days and survived! Her ammonia cleared up, her kidneys suffered no damage other than inflammation from the stress. Since this is still recent we’re still giving her some fluids for her kidneys to flush out any inflammation that might be lingering and to aid them in healing. I am continuing to bring my cat there for check ups. The surgery for her teeth WAS NOT performed here it performed at a vets office and she wound up here because of what happened at that place . The doctors at this hospital were very thorough by following up with tests and making sure everything was stabilized and improving. This was a very critical situation. Thank God I had pet insurance. I always tell people BUY PET INSURANCE. it is worth it. Anyway I am so pleased with this emergency place I would Not go anywhere else! I can’t thank the staff enough for helping to save and stabilize my cat. The odds were very much stacked against her And the chances of her surviving this tragedy was slim. Again I can not thank the team enough for all they have done!!ud83dudc97ud83dudc97
We had an emergency with our Dachshund mix. He woke up and his back legs were paralyzed. Our vet at Mid Island sent us immediately to VCA for an MRI. Dr. Santare was amazing. She gave Cooper and MRI and operated on him to relieve the pressure on his spine. Everybody there is so loving and caring. They called us every few hours updating us on his progress. We went to visit him the next day and learned how to give him his physical therapy and found out what supplies we would need when we brought him home. The professionalism and care from this staff made us feel safe and secure. Thank you!
We were recommended to bring our dog Dakota to VCA Westbury & Emergency Center of Westbury because he was very ill and needed to put down. The staff and doctor was extremely professional and compassionate.
