Great vet , was in for a lameness exam, and they were very good able explaining everything and finding the issue.
Used this vet service in January 2021 for sedation services for a very difficult mare. We paid the emergency fee since it was last minute (always want to use pharmaceutical intervention as a last resort), the farm visit fee, the cost of the sedation and tipped the vet they sent out. The vet they sent out was very helpful and knowledgeable. She helped us load a very stubborn large mare that absolutely DID NOT want tonget on a trailer***Let me give you some back story on this mare.... This mare is a sweet, gorgeous, BIG, 5 year old Quarter Horse that was bred to show but thru no fault of her own got put out on the back shelf and moved out of a show barn when she was 3 and put out to pasture at 3 years old. She had never been broke but she has decent ground manners. Especially since her whole life for the last 2 years has only been being lead from a stall to a field for daily turnout and that’s it. She has been hauled 1 time before in her life and that was when she went from the show barn where she was bred and raised to a local backyard barn where as I said...all that was done with her was to be lead to and from a stall to a pasture. Add on topnof that she is a very hard headed BIG mare that isn’t afraid to throw her weight around and get western so she can be a handful to say the least***We knew when we moved our horses in January that it was only going to be temporary because we were on a waiting list for a barn much closer to our home. Something we let the vet know when she came out in January. We even discussed that we would be trying to work with the mare over the winter to try and make the upcoming next move easier. Unfortunately the temporary barn we moved to had no place for us to park our trailer OR more importantly have a safe place for us to work with the mare during the winter. The ground conditions were icy and unsafe and we were not allowed to house our trailer at the barn so trailer training has not been possible. Much to our surprise our stalls came available 3 weeks ago at the barn closer to our house.. Which is very important to someone who works 70-80 hours a week at a hospital during a global pandemic, has two other horses in training, is homeschooling kids, and commutes over an hour one way to work...cutting 30 minutes off drive time to the barn is HUGE for me. So when the opportunity to move them came we jumped at the chance. We had been doing TONS of ground work with our mare so we were hopeful that the hard work we had put in would translate into her loading. We were wrong of course and she refused to load. Rather than fight her we decided to call the vet and do the same thing we had before. Of course sedation is not training so we didn’t really want to have to do it but with our backs to the wall we figured better to move her and now that the weather was broke we would be able to work with her even more and not have to medicate her again. I made the call the same as we had done before and left the exact message on the voicemail. I stated what we needed and that it wasn’t an emergency. I received a call back from the same female vet we used before but this time she was rude and short. Instead of being helpful she lectured me on how we should have worked with the mare more and told me she had better things to do today than help me with my horse. She behaved like she was doing me a favor rather than being paid to perform a service. I didn’t feel like I owed her an explanation on why we hadn’t been able to work with our mare, I just ended the call. Talk about TERRIBLE customer service!!! We were prepared to pay the farm call, emergency fee, medication cost, and tipnher just like last time. But instead she chose to have a nasty attitude, pass judgment without the facts, and lose a customer FOREVER!!! I would never do business with this vet again.
Very disappointed...I will give 2 stars for the prompt response to my call. Most vets were hard to reach, or didn't call back until later. Their office did answer right away. However, if I would have listened to their vet my donkey would have been put down days ago...She is on a road to recovery thanks to another vet that I had contacted who called to follow up and begged me to let her give a second opinion. Sad when you can't trust a veterinarian...
Amazing vets! My parents had Dr. Ryker years ago, and now we use the other wonderful vets there for our horses. They are very helpful, prompt, and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend them!
Dr. DeWitt was amazing today. She took the time to explain to us so much about what she was checking out on our horse today. She answered so many questions. The rest if her crew were very nice also. Very happy and impressed!
