I didn't care for this establishment at all. I had to travel 5+ hours to get from VA to NC. That was inevitable...it had to be done. Initially, ALL of the information that was conveyed to the elder owner 'needed' to be constantly repeated in a very loud voice. Also, us literally writing down names and addresses in big letters still could not be entered accurately on the forms. Lots of misspellings on the forms and incorrect information on the death certificate (even the wife's name was incorrect). Also, because my son's wife is handicap in a wheelchair, I was told two days later (5+ hours away from NC) that she would have to come back in and sign a release form in order for me to pick up my son's ashes. I asked Mr. Mitchell why didn't he get her to sign the form while she was there and he didn't have an answer. He kept saying, 'no problem, no problem'. I told him it was a problem because now we needed to inconvenience a young mom in a wheelchair and bring her back over here to sign papers that she should have signed when we told him that I would be picking up the ashes. However, he did go to my son's wife home and have her sign the release papers. We were down there on Wednesday, paid for everything that day. They said that they would call me back the next day - they didn't. I was called on Saturday - half an hour before they closed to pick up my son's ashes. I live 5+ hours away. Before I left NC, I conveyed this message to the owner (and I'm assuming his son) that I would be travelling back to VA and needed to know when I could pick up my son's ashes which they said would be ready on Saturday. Before I left NC, I repeatedly told the owner (and I'm assuming his son) (because no one introduced themselves) that I would be travelling back and they assured me that they would call the next day (even promised) and let me know when the ashes could be picked up. I called on Friday morning, leaving several messages with the answering service and both times telling the service that I WAS 5+ hours away and needed to know if I needed to leave on Friday evening or Saturday. Mr. Mitchel said no one told him that. No one returned my call until Mr. Mitchell called later Saturday evening and told me that they had my son's ashes but they were closing in half an hour. Sometime, you have to retire. You might not see it but sometimes, you have to let go on things, retire and enjoy what's left of your life because you are not promised tomorrow. I was told by Mr. Mitchell that they weren't open on Sunday and that 'if' they weren't busy on Monday that 'maybe' I could pick them up. We still haven't received an autopsy report. I had no ideal that not only would I dealing with the death of a child at the age of 30-years old - that I would be dealing with a disorganized establishment. Truly disheartening. If you have to look for a funeral home, this one might work for some people but you just might want to look further down the listing to see what is available rather than stopping at the letter 'A'.
