Wow. My daughter and I left his shop hours ago and it is still all we can talk or think about. Paul is a man who loves his craft and willingly shares his wisdom and experience with strangers. I think calling him an alchemist is appropriate. He takes the simple things of this world, and turns them into incredible works of art. And his knowledge about the words on the pages is as exquisite as the beautifully crafted covers.

I have few words that can express my experience with Paul: Laughter, Intrigue, Tears. Within the hour, he showed me God. I bought nothing that day, yet I can't help feel that we both walked away wealthy. Peace and love to you, Paul. I'll see you as soon as I have finished myself with Secrets.

When my friend and I popped into this shop on a whim, we had no idea what kind of adventure we were about to experience! We spent a few hours in the Period Fine Bindings, listening and learning as Paul described his work in the most delicious detail! I cannot recommend the experience enough, it was truly on of the most magical afternoons of my life and I still can't believe it happened in sleepy Oak Bay!

I had the most fabulous time at Paul’s shop! He truly is a Renaissance man, with an encyclopedic knowledge of his craft. I bought a beautiful book for my husband and a lovely bracelet for my daughter. He so kindly gave me an extra gift for me! He brightened what has been a very dark time for me. If you are a book collector, appreciate antiquarian books, or need a book restored, Paul is a master bookbinder and one of the few true craftsman left in his trade. He is exceptionally knowledgeable about all subjects related to fine books, book restoration and is great fun to chat with. His shop, Period Fine Bindings, also boasts an excellent collection of first edition books, on an amazingly broad range of subject matter. I was pleasantly surprised when I mentioned a personal interest and he plucked three or four books right off the shelf about the topic. A great stop, and a great shop! Highly recommended.
