Marty Smith Motors

Marty is the man, bought a 2012 Sonic off of him, he was very reasonable with pricing and gave me all the facts regarding the car upfront, inspection and carfax. A previous comment below stated Marty as rude, however I highly disagree with that, texts are read in the tone that the user perceives them, not a fair assessment. Furthermore, the previous review mentioned possible point regarding race and being Asian... I am Chinese and I am pretty positive this is not the case at all. Overall, I highly recommend Marty to anyone looking to buy a vehicle.

We met up once to discuss the price of a car and he was quite condescending and rude. I know it can be a pain to negotiate the price of a car to a customer however there is no need to be so disparaging. Especially since we were quite polite and fair with our questions. After we texted him that we were going to pass on the car he responded "not surprised". Hopefully he didn't text that to us because we are asian. Attached is proof that he sent it.

I found one of Marty's cars through Autotrader. I was coming in from Vancouver and wanted all the details before making the ferry trip. This was an older vehicle, sight unseen, so I had my hesitations. Marty assured me it was in excellent condition and would to drop it off at the Lexus dealership for inspection prior to my trip over. He also offered to pick us up from the ferry terminal, though we didn't need it. I was not disappointed in the car, just like he said, with some very minor issues considering it is a 16 year old car. It passed inspection and was covered with a 6 month warranty just in case. Now 6 months later, it is still a trouble free vehicle. I believe Marty offered the best service (a one man team) could offer, was trustworthy about the car's condition, and gave a fair price.

I purposely waited 6 mos to see how this review would look before writing it. I contacted Marty in June 2018 about a car on his lot explaining we were on the east edge of the province and that I wanted to be sure if I made a trip out I would not be sorry. After chatting with Marty and getting a really good feeling over the phone he sent the CarFAX and other information he had on the car that clearly showed past service work that had been completed. Taking Marty at his word we purchased 2 one-way plane tickets from Calgary to Victoria and met Marty at the lot on a Saturday afternoon. We found the car to be EXACTLY as described and Marty was a pleasure to work with. After my wife and I test drove the car and chatted a bit more, we worked out a deal that was very acceptable to us and Marty called the ICBC agent to meet us at his lot. We have since put over 30,000km on the little X-Type since bringing it home and it has surpassed my expectations in every way. Marty is truly a "straight shooter" who I would have no issue recommending to friends or family, I would definitely deal with him again in the future if he had something on his lot that I was interested in.
