Trupanion

PLEASE READ - I've been on Trupanion for a year so far. I have not had to make any claims but I went with them due to the fact that they informed me that unlike other pet insurance companies (I called at least 5 different ones and created a chart of pros and cons of each), it was not mentioned that every year while Trupanion does not raise their premiums due to the age of the pet or inflation, they raise it depending on how many pets in your area (same breed, age, nurtured/spayed) have sent in claims. If a lot of claims came in, then your premiums will go up for the next year. My premium is at $66.54 a month and it went up to $85.43 a month starting my second year. This is a HUGE jump, more than I would ever expect. I understand that COVID took a toll this year, businesses have to close down, prices have to go up for clinics and medical supplies, but an extra $226.68 a year hurts the wallet. I have already spoken to them and there is nothing you can do as insurance is a gamble. You pay for something that you hope you don't need but you will never get your money back if you don't need it. While I love the coverage of this company and wished I had it with my last pup, it is something you need to consider. I plan to stay with them for another year as $85 is not unattainable for me and I know the benefits of a good insurance company - especially at the end of dog's life. BUT if it continues to jump like this, I may as well put the money into a savings account and save it up on my own.

Completely out of mind rate increases for no real reason. We've been with Trupanion since we got our dog male Australian Shepherd he was 8 weeks when we joined the plan, we had 2 rate increases before 2 years, and now we're getting another one and guess what it's a 49% rate increase, this is completely insane, there are no rules of how much they can increase your rate. On top of that they are so proud to say that using the plan will not penalize the customer, well you better use it because if you dog has no problems and never uses it you will be penalized by these crazy increases in rate out of nowhere. I sent them an email regarding why the big jump on rate increase and I am waiting on an answer I am expecting the same copy and paste they send in every single email I recommended Trupanion in the past but I truthfully regret it now, do not use their service it is a bait and switch company

I highly recommend Trupanion. Our dog suffered deep lacerations after an accident. He required three surgeries. Trupanion covered 90% of the bill after the original deductible saving us over $3000K. They were fast with payment too. Great company!

Just had a quick scroll before writing this review. 11 of the latest 13 comments give Trupanion 1 star out of 5. You would think they might reassess their latest business decisions but here we are... We just received an email stating that our monthly premium would increase 48%. No justifiable reason supplied. This is during a pandemic when jobs and salaries are sliding in the opposite direction and people are struggling financially but pet ownership is booming. Here's to number 12 and one less customer. On a side note: Trupanion revenue was 31% higher than this time last year. “It was another strong quarter for Trupanion, with high retention rates driving accelerated growth in net subscription pets,” said Darryl Rawlings, Founder and CEO of Trupanion.

Having Trupanion for almost 5 years with no claims the pup had to go in for an expensive surgery thought no problem That's why we have pet insurance for a reason. Trupanion denied my claim I appealed multiple times with no success claiming it was a preexisting condition and when I canceled my policy Trupanion had said they had records that my vet secretly gave them without my knowledge making almost everything that can go wrong with a dog a preexisting condition that was not even related to the surgery he had. this company is a another insurance scam and should be investigated! I will save my 90 bucks a month and take care of our pets without worry of claims being denied.
