El Rey Court

We enjoyed our stay at El Rey. The grounds are beautiful and it has a cute vibe. We received a complimentary upgrade to a room with a little patio which was super nice. The staff were friendly. Four stars because there were a lot of things sort of missing in terms of amenities. Only one small mirror in the bathroom and none in the room. The AC was an old window unit down the hall by the door with only an on/off switch and no temp control so we were super hot all night. It also sounded like a giant truck taking off when you had it on. The bathroom sink also had zero counter space which was frustrating. Also, if traveling during covid note that the hot tub is closed and the sauna unfortunately didn’t get very hot at all.

Great boutique style hotel. Love my two nights here and all the beautiful courtyards. Staff was very friendly and check in was a breeze.

We stopped overnight in Santa Fe on our way to Arizona and enjoyed our stay at El Rey. There were several safety measures in place as a result of COVID-19 which was good to see, including a curbside check-in option. Several amenities weren't available at this time which was understandable. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the perfect spot to wind down with a few drinks purchased from the lobby gift shop after a day of driving.

Do not be fooled by the lovely photos! We expected fresh clean rooms, but were disappointed to find things were outdated. The bathrooms had not been renovated, or even touched since the property was bought. Carpets were stained, AC was old and smelly, and sheets were scratchy. We saw two of the rooms that the motel had to offer and checked out shortly after to find another hotel.

We had an excellent stay at this charming and recently renovated hotel - note that some of the very early reviews may be fore the hotel before the renovations, so take that into account. When we first arrived, we were in a room with old stained carpeting but brought this up to the person at the front desk and were then put in a BEAUTIFUL, charming room with a brick floor - be sure to ask for a brick floor or tile floor room until they get the other rooms updated with new carpets etc. Also, we were staying during the early COVID period so many of the normal services there were closed, unfortunately, but it is an awesome space and we are very excited to return once the pandemic subsides and normal operations resume :)
