Although well appointed and clearly lovingly maintained, this place has an air of anxiety, bordering on militancy. The owners are overly keen to show you how happy they are, but once the surface is scratched you start to see unpleasant undertones in it all. Religious paraphernalia, normally not unwelcome, is used here as a point of order, almost a call to arms. Conversation at the breakfast table turns with shocking alacrity hard to the right if allowed, and soon the owners are mourning their threatened rights and the great impositions the white Christians of this country apparently are suffering. And the rooms are decorated like a dolls house, only a dolls house owned and kept by an adult who gets disturbingly fidgety when anyone touches the tiny furniture, and has to polish everything then whisper calming mantras to the dolls. After a night on the town, it became clear that the owners are notorious in the neighborhood. ‘Oy, you’re staying there?’ And, ‘Don’t crease the linens or you’ll get a hiding!’ come to mind. All in all, Edwin K starts out feeling like grandma’s house, but ends up feeling more like The House on The Hill.

So sorry to hear Marv passed away last month. Laurie has decided to sell the Inn. Marvwas definitely the personality behind the Inn. I hope Laurie is able to sell and move on. We stayed in 2003 and again 2019. Beautiful B&B. Bit pricey, no tv and beds are hard. But historic and close to the wharf.

I called Marv for a room because where we were staying was like a scene out of a bad movie. He was so kind and pleasant, told my husband and I to come on over though check in was not until 4, he allowed us to take our room at 10am. The room was so comfortable and just what we needed. Wow! What a beautiful spot this is in Florence - walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants downtown. This historic B&B has amazing, and kind, owners - they pay such attention to every little detail! The house is beautiful - clawfoot tub in our room was original, and so many special touches. We highly recommend!

Marv was a perfect host. House has great history and decor. Missing nothing. Perfect start place for local trips. Food superb. Just super.
