Beacon House Inn

I'd love to write a great review, and usually only get on line to write raves. But in this case, I feel like commenting, in the possibly delusional hope that this will be helpful, if not to the owner then to potential guests.nnThere are essentially two Beacon Houses to review: the exterior and its amenities, which are excellent; and the room itself, which is...not so good.nnThe grounds are beautifully kept, clean, even luxurious, with broad and furnished porches that are great places to sit and watch the world go by. The pool is large, very clean and terrific--except for its floor surface, which is mysteriously slippery and sometimes a bit tricky to navigate.nnThe staff is very helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts are excellent. I do wish the owners would publish a list of local restaurants that are open during the pandemic; we ended up dining on appetizers that we'd luckily brought along due to all the closures.nnThe room itself leaves much to be desired. The bathroom would make Motel 6's look like the Ritz. The mattresses are straight out of a summer camp experience. My son slept in a foldout bed that reached right to the edge of our own bed, making it almost impossible for one of us to pass by in the night to hit the bathroom.nnMost disappointing is that the windows don't open--a block from beach air--which leaves you dependent upon the AC system, which is noisy and lacks sufficient power to actually circulate any air in the room. Needless to say, we slept badly.nnThe fairest score would a 2.5, which isn't available; ultimately, when I think about the high cost of the room for one night, I think the value for the money spent pushes it down to a 2 rather than up to a 3.

The breakfast was freshly made and the location is only 1 block away from the beach which is nice.nnUnfortunately this place is currently not cleaning your rooms during your stay so more like a B&B you are actually renting a room. We stayed for a week and the most we received was a change of towels and once they changed our sheets (after complaining). No actual cleaning of the room. Also, while they have fridges to store food on the “adults only” house, there is no options to heat food. They do have a microwave but they don’t allow guests to use it. Their reason is that all this due to covid but they never mentioned it on booking.com or in any of the several emails we got before our stay or even upon arrival at check in. I believe they should disclose any change of service so that guests can make a proper informed decision, which is why I am writing this review.

This place is soooo cute and has really great amenities - pool, beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, beach passes, a fridge for guest use, breakfast in the morning. Very easy walk to the beach. It's very sad that this place won't be around much longer.

Last chance to stay here for us. Great historic B&B with the best breakfast in north America. Clean with a great staff.

Great place..... Clean...Friendly staff and owner....for those who are concerned about COVID compliance...this is your place....well prepared and organized for handling the pandemic.
