The five of us were looking for some where to eat after a Tabor tennis match our daughter and her roommate played in. A friend told us about this place and when we showed up we were blown away! The building is absolutely gorgeous inside and out and the food was fantastic. Thanks for a wonderful evening. This place is one of the best kept secrets in the entire State of Kansas.
The Elgin exceeded all of my expectations. We discovered the Parlour 1886 restaurant by chance and were invited to view any of the open rooms while we were there. That initial welcoming experience is what brought us back to stay for a night in the Amelia Earhart room. All the rooms are lavishly appointed and super clean, with all traveler needs anticipated. This historic gem offered a fabulous and unique getaway that I highly recommend to anyone.
This is a beautiful and historic place, with a million plus remodel restoring the diamondlike quality of a fabulous old hotel. The hotel is complete with a resplendent dining room of brocade and tapestry, low lights and fine dining on the plains, boasting delicious food. The grandstaircase and the glittering chandelier over the stairway speak of the elegance of an era now forgotten. Step back to the 1800s and let the well appointed decor, multiple lobbies and a ballroom, elevate you to a serene, Kansas cattleman's grandness not often found.
We had a great stay. Eating places are the only difficulty. Abbreviated hours and lack of selection were notable. The hotel itself is beautiful. Lots of antiques, stained glass, period fixtures and kind and attentive staff.
We enjoyed every moment of our short stay this week. Tammy was incredibly accommodating by handling our late afternoon reservation with the most exceptional customer service. Everything in our room was perfect and the entire property is beautiful. We felt that we had dropped into a wonderfully luxurious scene from the late 1800s with all of the convenience of our modern world. The Elgin is a must visit if you are traveling anywhere near Marion. I have already picked the next few rooms I want to stay in for future visits. Fabulous experience!
