Jeff, John and, of course, Deeks, provide some of the best customer service around! You can really tell they love what they do! I highly recommend stopping in to check out their selection of bikes and accessories! They service/repair bikes in-house as well!!! We have enjoyed doing business with them for a couple of years now and highly appreciate having such a great shop in our area! They are also active in the local community, offering more resources to help keep our community active and healthy! They plan and execute rides weekly and assist with other initiatives to keep our community healthy. Great asset to our community!

I'm brand new to the cycling world, so picking out a solid entry-level bike seemed a little intimating to me. However, as soon as I walked through the door Jeff put me at ease. He was incredibly friendly and professional, and answered every question I had, no matter how basic or silly it was. He helped me pick out the perfect bike and he and John had it put together that very same day! I can't thank the guys at Ottawa Bike and Trail enough for their patience and their expertise. I certainly won't be going anywhere else for anything biking related and would recommend them to anyone looking for a new bike or that are just getting into cycling like me.

I've been going to Ottawa Bike and Trail since they opened a couple of years ago. Jeff and Jon have treated me like family and have built an inclusive biking community for Ottawa. I've bought and traded several bikes and always got a great deal, and the service work has been exemplary. By far the best experience i've had out of the Topeka, Lawrence, or KC shops i've visited in the past.

Spring 2020, I had repairs done to both my mountain bike and road bike done here and had I known then what I know now, I would have gone somewhere else. The mountain bike went in for a general tune up, nothing major. On the very first trip out with it, It would not shift into the lowest gear while going up hill. Not a huge deal, rarely use those gears anyway. The Road Bike was to get a tune up, new tires, rear wheel trued/straightened, new pedals, new shoes, and new gloves. First trip out on my road bike after getting it back I noted a tinging sound coming from the spokes or frame that I had never heard. Because the negative vibe I got from the staff at Ottawa bike I went to another shop to get a second opinion. I needed a new rear wheel on the road bike, it was cracked in over half of the spoke holes. That shop explained to me that the spokes on the rear wheel were bing pulled through the rim and that it could be due to just age, (3 years old) but also over tightening the spokes while truing the rim. I can't say that the cracks in the rim were the fault of Ottawa Bike, but it doesn't look good when I give you a wheel to true and you give it back with stress cracks at more than half the spoke holes with no mention of it. If it wasn't repairable, all they had to do is say something and I would of had them order and replace the rim. I also had them true the back wheel on my mountain bike recently. So far, I haven't had an issue with that, but it took them nearly two full weeks to get it done when I was told it would take 4 days. Lastly I got the feeling from this shop that I didn't buy my bikes there so they didn't want to mess with them. Even after going in there several times and returning to pick up my bikes they always acted like they didn't even recognize me. Even though I ride a Trek and a Specialized, I miss my old Voodoo and have a special place in my heart for smaller bike brands like some of the ones Ottawa Bike carries. But I can't stand a shop that acts like its too good to help someone who bought their bike somewhere else and thats the way it felt to me at Ottawa Bike. I won't be going back. If your in need of a new bike, shop around or if you need work done, go to Lawrence. While Sunflower has taken a slight step back from bikes, they have always treated me right and so has Lawrence Cycle Works. Garret at the Trek Store in Lawrence is also very sharp, knows his stuff, is friendly, knowledgeable and proffessional. I feel like I will be buying a new ride in the coming year, not sure what. But it won't be from Ottawa Bike.
