Heard about this place from a friend. Found a Trek hybrid that rides like a Cadillac...great suspension, sits nice and tall, front & rear gear shifts, and lightweight for its size. Paid $800 LESS than orig price. They had a great selection of small, medium, and large sizes. They encourage you to test drive them around the block to pick the best one for your size & taste. I didn’t know there were so many variations of a bike. Tiff was the person who helped me— super patient & knowledgable...she offered recommendations and tailored her suggestions as she listened to my feedback after each test drive. The ppl there really love what they do...they love saving the environment from trashed bikes, and they love giving the bikes to a new owner. Tiff was so happy that I was so happy with the bike. If I could, I’d ride everywhere now!nn*Important Note*—as of Feb 2020, they take cash, but will eventually take other forms of payment for a nominal fee. Your purchase is a donation, as they are a non-profit. It’s a real no-pressure environment— Tiff purposely didn’t tell me about the cash-only policy because she didn’t want me to feel obligated to buy.nnHighly recommending this business!!

I came all the way out from the Tri-Valley to snag a cute singlespeed from SF Bike Rescue. I called to make sure it was available and when I got there, Tiff remembered who I was and immediately grabbed the bike. Honestly, half of my satisfaction is with Tiff and the guys scurrying around the shop getting stuff done. Everyone was super nice and Tiff was genuinely excited for my new bike day. I rode off smiling like a giant nerd.nnI love my bike! Super affordable price, and I'm glad that money goes to providing bicycles to others. Hoping to bring my boyfriend for his too!

Fantastic place to get a bike! It seems like a one-woman show, so it's not the easiest place to make it to, but easily the most helpful and caring bike places I've ever been to. She really cares about finding the perfect person-bike pairing and is super friendly to boot. (I practically felt like Harry Potter buying a wand.) Plus there are lots of fantastic bikes for a total bargain.nJust be sure to bring cash since they're cash only

CASH ONLY, ATM nearby.nnHours vary as well as availability of certain bikes in this shop.nnCall and make an appointment during regular weekday hours to access their workshop. This is because it is a non-profit/volunteer effort shop. Low overhead is a requirement for them.nnThey use bike parts from law enforcement, SFPUC, and other city agencies that they have found to make them into full usable bikes for dirt cheap prices to free. Around 100-200 max.nnBikes for all ages are usually available with great staff.nnQuality of work and bikes/bike parts, in my opinion, seems very well done.nnThe location will look sketchy, but it is completely legitimate.nnFor outside commuters, use BART to get there and also transport your new bike home if you do not have someone to assist. It is around 10 blocks to/from Fruitvale station. Bring a helmet in case you wish to bike the rest of the way home.nnI implore all visitors to contribute to the cause by donating parts and money, and continue to allow their mission to bear further fruit.nnThank you, Bay Area Rescue.
