I worked here 2019-2020 and I also have adopted from here. I am mortified by some of the one star reviews. Let me be very clear. The staff pays very close attention to people who want to adopt. After all, they have been taking care of your potential fur baby, since the day that animal came to the shelter. Each and every staff member has a great deal of empathy for the animals. So with that said… If you are there to adopt and your application is denied it is not because they don’t “like” you... it is because you don’t meet the requirements to adopt AT THAT TIME (meaning you didn’t come prepared) and/or they don’t see a long term match. And that could be for a variety of reasons. My advice to you is to be fully prepared before driving up that driveway. Before making the trip and sitting at the gate waiting for the gates to open. Know that you will be thoroughly scrutinized, and that is for the sake of the animals they love. The shelters main objective is to find forever families for the animals who are homeless, but they’ve got to be certain you’re in it for the life of the pet.

My wife and I just adopted our new chihuahua Saturday. Everyone at Sevier County Humane Society were awesome. We could not have asked for a better pup. We've had her two days and she already owns the house. We searched for months for the right baby until this one came along. We were patient and with a lot of help from God, we were finally blessed. Thank you SCHS for making this happen.

My girlfriend and I drove five hours and got to the shelter at one in the morning, we slept in the back of my truck to make sure we were first in line to get the dog we feel in love with over the website. When it was time to meet the dog it went fine but their application process was bs. They main person was very rude to us. Before we went to the shelter we called many times to make sure we had everything we needed so we could come back home with the pup. Then the lady tells us that we needed more stuff about the dog that we had already had. When over the phone there was no mention of that. I asked if we could get a couple minutes to try to get them and the lady told me no and then walked over to the next guy and gave the dog up for adoption to him.... the guys dog was growling at another dog that wasn’t even near him.

If i could give zero stars - I would. I completely agree with many of the other low ratings. Staff does not appear to really want to find homes for these beautiful, but neglected animals. My wife and I were treated almost like criminals when we showed up. It looks like maybe they do not have many animals, so perhaps they are trying to keep them in captivity to preserve their jobs. Very rude and unprofessional staff.nIf you want to find a dog to make part of your family, go to Sevier Animal Care Center. The folks at Sevier Animal Care Center have the animal's interest first and are very nice to work with. They are located on Dolly Parton Parkway across from the regional airfield.

I have never adopted an animal from this organization, but they have helped me so much over the past couple days with a stray dog that we found. They have done everything they can to get me information and contacts to find the pup’s owners and have continually checked in for updates. I am very thankful for their help and have no doubt the animals at their facility are well taken care of.
