Manager or Owner was very nice, room was clean, has more amenities then Motel 6 (better shower head, great water pressure, fridge is bigger & has a light for at night, more TV channels, better towels)Note: room was recently remodeled)
My boyfriend is currently homeless and we used to rent a room here quite often because it’s by far the cheapest place around. A nice Indian man, I believe he is the manager because he lives on the property, usually checked us in. He recognizes me by face because I was a regular and told me on our first visit “check out is at 11 but anytime before 12 is fine.” The rooms always smell the old person, the beds squeak horribly, everything is extremely outdated, the blinds don’t work in most rooms, and I once had the hot water run out on be during a shower. We still came often because it gave us a private room, my boyfriend a bed to sleep in when he couldn’t find someone to couch hop with, and a shower. A few weeks ago another hotel staff member showed up. The first time we saw her, she put us on the “do not rent to” list, after multiple stays of us causing no problems, because the house keeper found a zip lock bag in our trash can and she claimed it was used for drugs, even though she also said it was completely empty. Even after that, we tried to check in again and we’re given a room by the Indian man. That morning the house keeper knocked on our door at 10 am, an hour before check out time. We called back that we were in there, but she wouldn’t leave even though we called multiple times through the door. We got no response until my boyfriend called clarifying that check out time was 11. I guess the other lady who ran the desk had come up too by then and she yelled “yes it’s 11 and NO LATER!” Since her showing up, the “do not rent to” list has gone from about 5 people to like 20 people. I understand that businesses reserve the right to refuse service, but now we have no where to stay when my boyfriend needs a shower, can’t find a place to sleep, and we want to spend a night together. We can’t afford the other hotels in the area. It’s true, this motel has had an ongoing reputation and being a drug hotspot, and the lady told me she’s trying to “clean the place up,” (rudely) but I’m not sure what driving all of her clientele away who show any little sign of drug use (like a zip lock bag in the garbage) even if they’re not causing problems is going to do. The people who rent at that motel are people who need a bed for the night, and aren’t expecting much. If she wants to attract more “upstanding” visitors, like people who would care about reputation, she might want to clean up the actual rooms a bit too. If someone is particular enough to not rent somewhere based off of reputation, they’re probably going to care about a bed that doesn’t squeak with every move, the hot water not running out, the blinds closing correctly, a room that’s not decorated for the 80’s, and good customer service.
When you stay at the cheapest place you can find, you go without certain amenities, and that should be expected. But, what should never be sanctioned or acceptable is the feeling of danger or shady activity. Such is the case with Galaxie Motel. It is apparent that many of the people at this motel live there. There is stuff laying around, and whenever you get a peek into one of their rooms, you can definitely tell they are not just overnight guests. What is more, these people loiter late into the night with their pitbulls, and eye you down whenever you walk past. Not very comforting. No continental breakfast, no coffee maker, bedsheets are thin, not even disposable cups or an ice or vending machine, and the room is starting to fall into disrepair. But this all to be expected at this rate. However, this motel does have some redemptive qualities. The beds were big, the room was clean, and came equipped with a microwave and a mini fridge. In lieu of a continental breakfast, you get 10% off at J&D's next door, which was an exceptional experience.
I know people that live there and work there
Great place .. everyone is real friendly and willing to work with you..it's pretty cheap to stay for the month.one month was $800 +tax's.. the bed was kinda hard but felt like a home to me.
Gave me a home when I had no home..
Will always go back when I need a place to lay my head
