Village Inn of Blowing Rock

I hate leaving negative reviews but I know that it will help someone in the future. My husband and I had a terrible experience at the Village Inn. We originally booked our room for 3 nights but ended up leaving 2 days early even though we were told we would not get a refund. The room was dirty (hair on bed and chair). The bathroom was very small and the shower looked so dirty we did not even attempt to use it. The bed was very old and was collapsing on one side. We were the only ones staying there and our room was right next to front office (even though the office was closed) so we did not have a private deck like seen in the photos on the website. There was not an attendant on site to ask questions to or complain to. Due to COVID there was no housekeeping the entire stay. We called the day we arrived and asked if we could cut our stay short and were told we would not get a refund. After discussing it we decided to leave anyway because we did not feel comfortable or safe in our room. We found a hotel 10 minutes away that was cheaper, much nicer, included breakfast, and had an attendant. After we left I canceled our stay online since it was after office hours and we were not able to call anyone. We ended up getting a refund for one night even though when we called the day before we told we couldn’t get any type of refund. It makes me wonder if I had canceled online the first day if I would have gotten a refund for 2 days instead of 1. Overall, terrible costumer service, dirty rooms, and very unwelcoming environment.

We stayed in the Storie Cottage at Village Inn and the staff there was great. After having only 2 towels for our party of four, someone brought us towels later in the evening.nnThe big issue, however, is with the sleeping arrangements. The cottage is represented as sleeping 4, which it does not. The king bed in the primary bedroom is fine, but the pull out couch in the main room is not the one shown in the pictures on their website and doesn’t even appear to be as large as a twin because of the short length. Our two small children could not fit on it together. After many attempts at sleeping, we packed the car up at midnight and drove home.nnWe spoke with management company this morning and were told that, while the couch had changed from the pictures online, it was still a double bed. We have double beds at our home, and the one at this cottage is far smaller than a double bed. I don’t want this to come across as an airing of grievances- I’m posting this to help other families looking for lodging in the area. There may very well be other rooms/cottages within this group’s properties that fit sleeping for a family of four, but this one won’t.

It was a good stay until I realized Ieft my ring. I called, they found it and said I had to pay to ship it. I paid almost $40 to ship it and still haven't received my ring back

Be careful. Black mold can be seen on the underside of the roof decking. See photos. The two story brick building shown in the photos is not where the guest rooms are located. This is a dumpy, old, side of the road motel that happens to be in Blowing Rock. These glowing reviews are bogus. Why pay these rates for a dumpy old drive up motel unless that's your thing?

Could not be happier. Location was great. Service was unbeatable, under these Covid times. Cute, Quaint, and cozy rooms. Will be back.
