Chieftain Motel

Neighboring now, and this motel has significantly gone down hill in the many years I've been coming to watkins glen and staying here. So not worth the money...peeling paint on the walls, horrible sulfuric water, and I couldn't even get ice for the price I paid! No wifi? What motel these days doesn't offer WiFi?!!! I will not be staying here again!

This motel is a little gem. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is comfortable and super clean. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. We had a family suite that had 2 double beds and a pull out sofa. It was like a tiny apartment and perfect for our family of 5. We would happily stay there again.ud83dudc4d

Absolute worst experience ever. I booked this place 2 days before the Watkins Glen NASCAR race in Aug 2019. My son, who is a cancer survivor/warrior and 9, drove 11 hours up from Charlotte after his amazing week at Victory Junction Camp. I confirmed the room twice and I spoke to the same lady each time. She had my credit card info written down and a reservation card there. When we got in at 930pm, the night before the race, she gave me my room key, room 16. We went there and there was already someone else in it. This moron booked 2 of us in the same room and I had it booked first, she didn’t even have a record of them booked at all. Well, she told us, too bad. So here I am in Watkins Glen, NY at 930pm, the night before a NASCAR race (160 000 people in town for it) and nowhere to go, thanks to this idiot. No effort was made to remedy the situation and zero compassion from anyone. Mind-boggling for someone charging $150US for a $60 room, too. We lucked out when I left and pulled into the Longhouse Lodge down the road. Jim has 1 room left but it was in their 8000sq ft mansion bed&breakfast, and they don’t usually book kids there. Well, he made an exception and gave us a crazy deal, too. It was also a huge 2 bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms and a private deck. By far, the best place in town. So if you’re travelling here, I’d suggest the Longhouse over this dump, which is most likely by the looks of it, infested with bedbugs anyhow. Disgusting.

Fantastic and gorgeous rooms. We originally had a room with no microwave/fridge but they graciously accommodated us by bringing one from a different room at no extra charge. An absolute gem right next to the Finger Lakes

The first review that shows up here does not reflect my experience, I am pleased with this place. Sure, it's a very basic motel, but it's also right near the town, you can see a nice view of the lake from your front window. It cost me and my wife and dog $119 the day before Memorial Day.nThey allow pets. No weird smells, nothing odd at all. My room is quite clean and well kept. Yeah, there is some paint peeling under the window, no doubt because guests leave it open and it rains.... Who cares... Not me.nThe shower has great temperature control, there are dispensers for shampoo, body gel and soap. Bed is comfortable. Sufficient lighting. AC works.nThe lady up front is pretty and nice. The TV is an LG brand LCD flat panel, of course. Comfy chair next to the bed, another chair at the desk, a little closet space. Really quiet area.
