I’m a composer, and my faith tradition is Episcopalian. When I need quiet time to work on a new piece, this is the place I come to.nnEasily half of my output is sacred or religiously-based, so I really appreciate being able to use their library as a resource.nnAbsolutely, positively plan to attend one of the Daily Office services while you’re visiting. These are *beautiful*!nn(I was mistaken for one of the monks during a recent visit, since I’m very fluent in Latin, read chant fluently (I use chant regularly in my own compositions) and Episcopalians also have the Daily Office and our liturgies and chants are practically the same. I thought it was very cool that I “passed” for a monk!)

We actually stayed in Anselm Hall.nnNo soap, no shampoo, beds like rock, thin walls, a shower tinier than you would find on a cruise ship, and water that goes from zero to scalding in a split second.nnBut let's face it--it's not meant primarily to be a hotel. It is neat, beautiful, and clean, and the people are wonderful.nnSo three stars as a hotel.

The Saint Meinrad Archabbey is only 1 of 2 archabbeys in the US and only 1 of 11 in the entire world. It is home to a little over 80 monks. The monk that gives tours has been doing it since 1990 and has given tours to over 86,000 people. You can hear a pin drop in the quarters where the monks are sequestered. In a world of self-gratification and entitlement, it's always good to see buildings like this built and maintained.

The St Meinrad Benedictine monastic campus is an incredibly beautiful and relaxing location, surrounded by a beautiful valley and peaceful farm land. The Guest House is very nice, comfortable and clean rooms, with its own chapel, dining hall, meeting rooms for retreats, easy access. Close to the Archabby church--highly recommended, please attend prayers and Mass with the monks--and all facilities of this campus which houses a seminary and a Master's level school of theology. Needless to say I love it!nTime for a trip to S. Indiana....
