I don’t even know where to start here. I bought some bearings for my bike, and was going to install them myself. I looked up the tools necessary, and since I do not have a garage, or the space to do this job comfortably, I called Orland Park Cyclery. I was promptly greeted on the phone, and asked about the installation of these bearings on my bike. I was told on the phone that they could be done while I waited, for about $20-$25. I brought the bike in the next day, when they opened. When I got there, I was told that they would need 2-3 weeks to do the job, and it would be about $40-$50. The money isn’t the issue, but the misinformation is. I’m more worried about the time. They told me the bike would be finished on April 2nd. I received a call today, saying the bearings I supplied were the wrong size. I bought the wrong bearings. My fault completely. I looked it back up and saw that I was misinformed on a forum and that the size was indeed wrong. The real reason I am mad is that rather than making an appointment with me, they held my bike there, and then work on it the day before it’s supposed to be done, and then tell me the labor I have to pay is $40 because that had to disassemble and reassemble my bike. Fair. I understand that. What I don’t understand is that they charged my $40 to take apart my bike, and then assemble it the laziest way possible. Everything is loose. The crank is loose, the chain is loose. This bike is not the same as the way I brought it in. I called and asked why I had to pay them $40 for a bike that’s not put together the way it came, and they just said “sorry, bring it back and we’ll tighten everything up”. Not acceptable by my standards. If you have the integrity to take apart a bike for $40, then have the integrity to put it back together properly the first time before somebody gets hurt. Bad place to bring your bike for service. I’ll never go there again.
The staff is super knowledgeable and professional. Prices are good. The shop obviously does enough business that they are not trying to rip their customers off. My bike is riding in better condition than it has in years. Really glad I found this place. Well worth the 25-minute drive.
Great to have a bike shop around for so long. This building was built in the mid 70's as a Schwinn shop. Bought a 81' Schwinn Sports Tour in 82' ($220). This shop fueled my BMX craze before that. If it is half as good as back them it's worth the trip now. Wonder how many owners since then? Any idea?
Great experience here, had all my questions answered and directed me to the bike that is great for my needs. I will definitely be back and directing friends and my family who are in the market for a new bicycle.
Jim is the owner and he is great to work with. Through these challenging times, Jim was able to work out a deal for me so I could ride the bike I've always wanted. He sold it to me at a reasonable price and assembled it for me. Everything works great! Be aware that all bike shops are slammed due to the gyms getting shut down. Jim was the only one who was able to work with me to get the bike I wanted. Be patient with the folks who own and work at the bike shops. They are working crazy hours under stressful conditions.
