Stay away! The poor reviews here are consistent with my experience. What surprises me is that people think the restaurant is good. It's really and objectively not. There are even much better options close by. Room quality is really poor. Materials are truly cheap (as in home depot cheap), craftmanship is surprisingly poor (as in poorly fitted floor panels, etc.). Service is on average arrogant . Even with everything done perfectly, the place would be outrageously overpriced but with all these issues it's really not worth it.nOne star is for the beautiful location.n(no, I am not necessarily a disgruntled customer. I am just really disappointed and am trying to be as objective as possible)nn---- updating my review, since I cannot reply to the owners comment:nThanks for reaching out. Lets please start by spelling my name correctly... You guys just don't get it right :)

I’ve been trying to schedule a week vacation at this location in Montauk and every time I call to talk with a customer service representative I get the absolute worst service ever! I’ve stayed at many five star luxury resorts all over the world, mostly Four Seasons or Rosewood hotels. I’m used to an extremely high level of customer service and professionalism. Sadly, I will never be a customer at this beach Shanty/shack, because they fail every time to offer quality service.

We stayed for 4 days at a premium rate at the end of March 2021. It is clear the management does not care about the customer experience and only bank on the location for the pricing they denand. Get an Air B&B instead in nearby townships. You’ll have a better experience. The restaurant is sub par in all regards and 40% over priced. Each day we had to remind the front desk 3-4 times to clean our room or provide in a reasonably timely measure any response to basic customer service requests. The property is significantly understaffed in every area and they make every excuse for their failures. This resort is billed at 5 star levels and delivers 1 star results. Perhaps the jet set doesn’t care - but for the prime location, anyone choosing to pay the rates this property demands should expect more with less effort. The management needs a full refitting and this is evident from the basic services in room that are lacking for remedial things like cleaning the room daily to the poor timing of food service and restaurant logistics and quality of the end result. Go stay somewhere else and come to the property only for beach access at the cost of car parking. This is a 1 star resort at best. Zero care for the customer. A missed opportunity by the management of this property to make it special for anyone. Boo ans shame on the owners.

Gurney's is heaven. How do I know this? Everything is wonderful-the room, the resort, the outdoor areas, the restaurants. Everything is there to make you feel like a million bucks. And this means I must be in heaven, because my only memory before suddenly arriving at Gurney's was seeing a double-decker bus come screaming towards me. Next thing I knew, I woke up at Gurney's. I can only assume I died in that tragic accident, and have reached my final resting place here. And I'm happy I did.

The updated Gurney's was a downer for us.nThere were three high points: the stellar Italian Restaurant, friendly staff, and the vintage books placed around. Also, they did a good job updating the room terraces.nEverything else seemed geared for flash over comfort.nOur designer bathroom had no towel bars, and no place to hang wet swimsuits. The worst was the shower. It was only partially enclosed, so water flooded out all over the bathroom floor.nIt was winter, and our heater was loud. The heater from the room next door blasted like a heavy bass.nOur designer room felt cramped and awkward.nShelves were crammed with over-priced food for sale. 3/4 of the space in the tiny refrigerator is stuffed with over-priced drinks. $4.00 for a can of coke.nA gross moment in the spa was noticing water dripping from the overhead ventilation into the hot tub.nI'll stop here, and just say that we used to love coming to Gurney's twice a year.nThe family resort is gone.nNow, it's a corporate investment.nAfter this winter, we have no desire to ever go back.
