This is the perfect getaway! Quiet, laid back, and extremely peaceful. Breakfasts are delicious. Also perfectly located if you are looking for things to do: Shenandoah and Virginia wineries are right nearby.

Words cannot convey how absolutely delighted we were with the Smithfield Farm Bed & Breakfast, but I will give it a try! The property is breathtaking with rolling pastures, a rushing creek, the sound of spring frogs singing in the evenings, and of course, the manor standing grandly at the end of the drive. We were greeted by Ruth who is as kind and friendly as the day is long. Her family has owned the Farm for 200 years and you can tell she has a deep connection to the estate and can tell you about the home and the arduous restoration. Be sure to ask her about the photo book if you have the same fascination and appreciation for historic buildings that I do. The main house and cottage have been lovingly and carefully restored, preserving the original floors, fireplaces, and woodwork. I loved the sweet and comfortable furnishings that brought me back to a time long gone without being ostentatious or overdone. This is absolutely a peaceful and heartwarming retreat. Every amenity has been considered from a variety of snacks and beverages provided in the downstairs hallway, to the quality of the linens on the beds and in the bathrooms. You will be delighted by your breakfast, made fresh in the morning with water, juice of your choice, coffee and tea. We loved the little apple crisp that started our meal on our first morning, followed by an indulgent and fresh (but not too heavy!!) french toast and handmade sausage. The second morning we delighted in a fresh berry parfait, a remarkable baked egg dish, ham, and perfect home fries. The guest rooms are spacious with soaring ceilings and large windows that overlook the remarkable views of the pastures and the mountains. Be sure to take the time to walk around the property and take it all in. This really is a wonderful place to relax, far enough from the hustle and bustle to catch your breath, but close enough to explore all that this region has to offer. I simply can't wait to stay here again. Perhaps next time I will carve out the time to sit and hear all the stories that this remarkable place holds...if I can convince the gracious hosts to take a moment away from their wonderful farm to oblige me.

The prefect weekend getaway from city life! Charming early 1800s farm, perfect for sipping coffee in the little gazebo out back, reading books in the sitting room & wandering the grounds. The innkeepers, a mother & daughter team, were perfect hosts. We enjoyed talking with Ruth about her experience growing up on the farm and restoring the buildings on the land to make the b&b. The breakfasts were delicious and abundant (those homemade cinnamon rolls...). The nearby town of Berryville, Va has cute shops & restaurants (we enjoyed Mario’s Pizza one night), while the “big city” of Winchester is about 20 minutes away. Easy gateway to Shannandoah National Park and Virginia wine country. We will be back!

Ruth and Betsy are warm, welcoming hosts. The B&B is beautiful, as are the surroundings. We had a comfortable stay, great night's rest, and delicious breakfast!

Everything was wonderful, the cutest little farm car was so friendly! Huge room (Wellford) and giant bathroom. Breakfast was great both days. Would definitely come again!
