I called Materia Bikes in search of a bike shop in my area to purchase parts to finish building my bike and must say the service from (I believe) the owner of the shop was the best part about my experience with Materia Bikes today, and that was just regarding directions to the shop. When I arrived, I rang the doorbell for someone to open the door for me and the woman was very welcoming. She asked me what she can do for me and I asked if they would help me figure out what size part I needed for my bike. She said yes but I spent nearly ten minutes in the shop just explaining what parts I needed and showing them to her on one of their displayed bikes and waiting for her to hang up the phone with the owner just so she can refer me to another shop about two miles away. My issue with this is that I came in looking for help from a bike shop and the employee there admitted she knew “nothing about bikes” (exactly her words). This was disappointing because their shop is displayed beautifully but my visit to Materia Bikes Chicago led me back to square one and my experience with them was overall unhelpful.
