I had a great weekend at Half Mile Farm.nThe peaceful atmosphere makes Half Mile Farm an ideal location to relax and unwind. Perfect for couples or groups of friends.nThe staff was incredibly attentive and always available to answer or questions or give suggestions.nThe food served at Half Mile was delicious! Each day we were served breakfast and evening appetizers, they were thoughtfully put together with great flavor and skill.nI am already planning my next trip!

Exceptional hotel Exceptional experience!nStayed 3 days and found Half-Mile Farm to be set in a exquisite location with warm caring staff and management. Service is efficient and expertly executed. Many thanks to Mr Austin the GM who had wonderful insights into Highlands and it's storied history. The entire F&B reception and housekeeping staff were wonderful. After 40 years in the hotel business besides staff are the amenities, linens towels and bedding that make a stay worthwhile. Half Mile Farm uses only top quality elements for their accomodations. The 33 rooms are all distinctively designed to reflect the quiet bucolic setting in this Blue Ridge jewel.

Beautiful, relaxing, and peaceful place to stay! A perfect weekend getaway for any occasion, but it was extra special as we stayed for our anniversary. Amazing hospitality starting from the welcome champagne at check-in, afternoon appetizers from 5-6 pm everyday, cookies all day long, and breakfast served every morning.nnAdditionally, it’s only a five minute drive into downtown highlands. We much prefer the more spacious and quiet grounds to stay in! We can’t wait to come back again soon!!

I was very disappointed for the way that the manager Laura Falcon treated me and my family. My wife and I were staying at the Half Mile last weekend for 2 nights. On Sunday afternoon my wife and I sat around the bonfire outside and I had some family members that were staying at the park on main hotel there as well. We were having a snack and a glass of wine for lunch. My dad was smoking a cigar which we apologized for( we didnt know it was not allow). The manager Laura Falcon when saw us there came out yelling at us saying that it was private property, I told her that I was staying at the Half Mile and she did not believe me I had to show her the room key. She was attacking us and kicking us out there like if we were wild animals even though I told her that me and my wife were staying at the farm. After this incident I had to cancel my remaining night at the Hotel because I could not stay at place were they treated me and my family like delinquents. I had to ask the manager to give me my money back for the remaining night multiple times until I told her that the less that she could do was to give me my money back for the way that she treated my parents and other close family members that were there. Laura never tried to keep us in the hotel, when I was asking for my money she would keep on saying that she could not give the money back because she could not resale the room. What that tells me of that manager is that she never care about how bad she made me feel even though I was staying at the hotel. Before this incident my wife and I were having a great time at the Half Mile, however this very disrespectful treatment that we received made the experience very unpleasant.

My girlfriend and I had our second stay at Half Mile Farm this past Sunday and it was another excellent experience. We both work for and live in a resort community just about an hour away, and we're very familiar with the hospitality business - it's clear that these folks know what they're doing. There were a couple of minor missteps along the way on the last booking (communication errors at most - and not significant enough that I will even mention what happened in detail other than to say that it was adequately compensated for), but otherwise, the service both times has been impeccable. Everyone has a smile on their face (even with a mask on, it's clear that this is the case), and while the overall staffing seemed somewhat sparse, I'm cognizant that we are here during the shoulder season so I'm sure there is much more significant coverage during busy times. I only mention that as a quick aside -- I'm glad to walk a couple hundred feet to pick up breakfast, and they likely would have delivered it right to our cabin had I asked them to. Speaking of masks, they seem to really take COVID precautions seriously which we both really appreciated.nnIn terms of the accommodations, we were initially a bit surprised at how rustic things were, but once we read up on the history of the cabins (we stayed at the Tavern Suite the first night, and the Justice Cabin the second evening - the latter was our preference, but both were very comfortable) we came to really appreciate how interesting the setting was. Despite that somewhat rustic appearance, the amenities are up-to-date and we were particularly enthralled with the jet therapeutic tubs at both locations, along with the beautiful wood fireplaces. It's worth mentioning that we are both extremely picky about cleanliness anywhere we stay, and both agreed that while we normally would never travel without our own linens especially during COVID times, this was the one place we had been in the last year where we didn't even think about it once. Everything was spotless and in great repair (aside from some very minor issues I mentioned to them upon checkout), and that juxtaposition of the rustic exterior with the hand-hewn timbers, alongside the well-kept and modern amenities inside, was very well done.nnI wanted to particularly call attention to two members of the staff who went above and beyond. During our first and second stay, we spoke often with Carol, who provided a warm welcome and also remembered us and even recalled where we worked, which shows me that she legitimately cares about connecting with guests. She helped us a number of times, even with my annoying requests for more fire starter (the wood was pretty wet - not their fault!) and more espresso pods (I like coffee, what can I say), and always did so graciously and with a smile on her face. We also had the pleasure of meeting Vickie (apologies if I'm spelling either name incorrectly) first over the telephone and then in person upon check-out, and she was similarly warm, friendly, and accommodating in every way. Both of these ladies deserve recognition for excellent service!
